A taste of the Middle East

Tucked away in a little corner, between Natural’s and the entrance of Lifestyle Phoenix Mills, this "blink and you miss it" eatery is not one that you should give a miss to. Maroush, like its counter part at the ITC primarily offers Middle Eastern fare, however it caters to the Indian palette with a variety of tandori offerings.

I swear by Shwarma and have traveled from Colaba to Andheri to find that one elusive perfect melt in your mouth Shwarma. My search ended here. The balance of the garlic sauce, hummus, and French fries so hits the spot. The Shwarma here is pretty wholesome; however, I strongly recommend you go dutch on a second one to feel completely satiated.

There isn’t too much seating, though they do have a round about table that you could park yourself at. This is a purely eat and beat joint. But what it lacks in ambience it sure than makes up in flavor. Also Friday nights and Saturday afternoons, the service does tend to get slow.

The chicken Shwarma (INR 90) is succulent, with the right amount of spice that other places tend to overdo. Since this is made right in front of you, you can monitor the amount of hummus and garlic sauce you want. I suggest don’t stint on the garlic, it adds just the right amount of tang. Interestingly they even put in a dash of Tabasco (was pretty sure that, that isn’t Middle Eastern, but then again, I shouldn’t really complain).

The vegetarian Shwarma has falafel replacing the chicken. This I would rate a little lower than the chicken, as it does tend to get a tad bit dry. But overall it isn’t a bad deal at INR 60.

By way of dessert, not much to offer, except maybe Maaza. (I don’t why people put that on the dessert menu, it’s a beverage, for crying out loud!!). But there is ample choice with Natural’s and Gelato around the corner jostling for your attention.
