This is just a brief note about my current experience with Brio -
While I was raving all about this place when it first opened in the May of 2006 in Juhu and even in the pre-opening week, I had visited twice. Food, although slightly more expensive than the regular coffee shops, the variety was great, ingredients fresh and the portions more than decent.
My last two visits, one at their place inside Hypercity Malad and other at Juhu, left me disappointed.
The Mumbai Masala sandwich which was a hunk of a grilled sandwich, 3 large slices of bread stuffed with sliced veggies, mashed potatoes and cheese - for around Rs.50 earlier, has been reduced to a skinny Victoria Beckam-esque version and that too after hiking the price by 30 % or so. This is just an example of how customers have been made to pay more for stuff that has been downsized portion-wise and quality wise.
The service has gone down a great deal in the Juhu branch, where they took AGES to bring my order of an eggless pastry. After all how long does it take to remove from the glass case, dump it on a plate and bring to table, where the entire seating is not even over 75 sq ft? After trying hard a few times, to get the waiter's attention (in the same 75 sq ft place), the waiter got an eggless shake (have you heard of something like that? He had mistaken eggless cake as eggless shake it seems!!! ) Then he goes back to get the eggless cake, only to return after 5 minutes, saying the last piece is gone. This was a true test of patience, and when I saw a cockroach running inside the glass display case, I thanked my good fortune that I did not get any cakes from there!
Charging more for lesser portions and service going from bad to worse, has discouraged us from visiting this place since then.
We'd love to drop by for a coffee, before catching a movie at the PVR cinemas - but it's sad indeed to see our favourite little coffee shop go down hill...
