A great Russian Restaurant.
Well this is a gem waiting to be discovered by most of delhi. and i really think that i should not write a review for this place and let it be hidden from public view and have my very own personal gem in the heart of delhi. but then again i'm not that selfish. its literally hidden in an obscure market in anand niketan and to give a little bit of idea on how obscure. the first time we went there. it was late at around 8:30 pm, and the rest of those shops in the market were closed down. Bline was not picking up their phone number and we crossed by that market , only to believe that the place must've shut down during the sealing drive.
A month later we called up , and went there, and it was worth a visit.
The owner of the place is a russian who himself cooks, and has a helper. the place has only 4 tables capable of seating 16 people, so you really have to book your place before going there. the russian owner is the biggest nazi of them all. he is one Khadoos person ( and i hope he does not read this review lest i'm barred form that place).. he reminds me of the Soup Nazi in one of Seinfeld's episodes.
coming to the food. the Bline (pronounced :Blee - Knee) are actually pancakes and are amazing to eat. they are quite reasonable too. the first time i went there, i was so excited (in fact we, were so excited) that we ended ordering everything on the menu (which is not that long) and liked most of it.
if you are there, i would suggest you to order Kompot to drink (it's a nice cold drink to have with your russian food). keep your blines for desert and have a good portion of beef stronganova , it's actually quite good. you could have that chicken dish as well, as that was also good. i have heard from another friend of mine that the soup (beef Bortsch) was quite tasty as well. But you have to try that Bline with Milkmaid for desert. that will make your knees tremble in pleasure. so you must've noticed that they do serve beef on the menu. yes, they do.
Waise, agar dekha jaaye, go there for a nice brunch there on sunday. have a lot of pancakes and have a nice afternoon later on, it would be worth it.
