Café Basilico
Wow, its been a while since I returned here. The place is a little worn out (Bandra outlet is better designed) we got there by 8 (it got crowded by 10)
Menu has changed and I was shocked to know that the best dish on the menu, the Penne Gremlota is no more(they weren’t willing to make it for me either) We ordered the middle eastern platter which came with falafel hummus, baba ganoush and other dip, falafel filled pita, potato skin with cheese and mushroom.
The appetizers were good but the entrees were all top notch. The Penne Arrabiata was spicy but very very tasty, unlike most places where its more peppery. The Lasagna came stuffed with pesto and goat cheese unusual but tasty.
Unfortunately the sauce was way too similar to the Arrabiata, would have been nice had the help warned us of it. The final dish was the Balinese Curry with rice, spicy but excellent.
The Beverages were ice tea (good) the peachy cheek (too sweet) The dessert was good (chocolate truffle, baileys mousse cake)
Service was prompt and efficient (whole thing got done in an hour and 50 minutes)
Café Basilico is a great, however it does have its drawbacks. No wine for one. Secondly the menu is strikingly similar to Moshe (even after the change) a lot of the dishes and drinks are not just similar but the same.
However Moshes does have some tantalizing additions. The staff is quick, polite but needs to know more about how to make the customers happy.
On its own it stands up well but when compared to its upscale, more well endowed cousin, it pales in comparison.
Damage 2000.
