Divine food!

Konkan Cafe was one of my destinations on my gastronomic pilgrimage before I bid farewell to Mumbai in a weeks time. A dear friend and colleague has a special fondness of this place and high regard for their chicken/veg stew and melt-in-your-mouth Appams so Konkan Cafe it was this evening when we decided to meet for an impromptu dinner.

Konkan Cafe has the hallmark of Taj hospitality- polite and cheerful staff, gorgeous ambience and wonderful service. The basket of mixed papads were perfectly fried, non oily with the right degree of "crunch" factor- the chutneys that accompanied it were wonderful. The green chutney was my absolute favourite. I ordered the seafood thali while my friends chose the vegetarian thali-the food arrived promptly and was absolutely perfect. All the dishes were flavoursome and had a home cooked wholesomeness about it. The appams lived up to their melt-in-your-mouth softness, the neer dosas were served warm, the egg appams were unique (although i preferred the plain appams which were frankly out of this world), the rasam, sambhar, mangalorean fish curry, and fish fry were just gorgeous. BTW, the appams are steamed in the front and brought to the table in bamboo steamers separated by layers of banana leaves (Can you tell I loved their appams? )!! The pulao was beautifully fragrant and just like something that my mother would rustle up...Konkan Cafe lived up to its reputation and some more. The service was discreet yet efficient, the maitre d' was very helpful..and the meetha paan at the end of the meal finished off the meal perfectly. All in all, a very leisurely meal amidst a great ambience and the food can only be described in one word- DIVINE! Definitely, a place that I will visit again..this time with my better half and family in tow!
