Not worth the buck + Food = Strictly OK

Of late i have been very unfortunate while dining out at restaurants that fall into a category of over rated + over hyped + overly priced. I am ok abiding with these aspects as long as the place provides you equivalent ambiance and food.

In continuation with my dismal dine out at Ruby Tuesday (I have ran out of good dining options in South Mumbai), I visited Flamboyante with a bunch of friends. We sat in the outdoor section which was draped in a wedding 'mandap' sorta decor. The place in itself has a very dull appeal to it. However, i would give brownie points for its music and the ample space between tables to make it private and less noisy.

Coming to the food - I have started getting wary about restaurants who under one roof - sell italian + chinese + mughalai..anyways - we orderd some peach iced teas, manchow soup and a couple of appetizers - cheese corn balls and veg crisys. While the iced teas were just ok, the manchow was very good. What disappointed me was the appetizers. The former was very bland the latter was drenched in oil sitting on the plate. Yuck! The pizzas we ordered werent that great either.

The damage for 4 with a couple of 9" pizzas and couple of appetizers + soup + with mocktails was 2800! That was a complete shocker as this place doesnt deserve this kinda pricing for the food that isnt that great and the ambiance that is strictly ok. Def not returning back to this place as the prices/ambiance are just not worth the buck.

Pricey but worth every bit of it

Did our annual old school boys reunion, just four of us catching up with the friend from LA. Wanted good food, great ambience and terrific service. Got all of it. Special mention for the prawns, and off course the kashmiri chicken tikka....two portions each were not enough. We stuck to the heavy starters and drinks section paid a bill of 5.5K and had a real blast.

rejuvenated

was just there for dinner. the decor has changed, the giant tent is gone, instead they have individual covers and lights on the tree and plants. Great setting.

We started with the soup Beijing Spicy which was well, not spicy at all. Not until i added a ton of hot sauce.

Then we got the appetizers, the mushrooms and water chestnuts, the steamed wanton were both top notch. The wantons were incredibly thin and tasty, the mushrooms were fat and tasty. The potato thingy was average.

we decided to try the pizza while the entrees came in. was peppers on half and sun dried tomato's on the other half. Superb. thin, tasty, enough crisp and just very well done.

the main course was the crowning. kung pao paneer, slight toughened paneer but the taste was just fantastic. The three treasure vegetable was also average.

Didn't get any dessert. The menu is very eclectic they have pasta, pizza, asian, dal and breads as well as some mezze. So plenty to choose from.

Overall, the ambiance has gone up quite a few notches, the food is good if they can iron out some niggles. The service is on the slower side but pleasant (the rice was below average, the soup was also weak)

All the issues i had they seemed to have somehow addressed them, they have done way better than i expected. Would return there soon.

i however don't like the way one of the owners (or his father) was treating the wait staff (in full view of patrons) Its not on. I wouldn't let the guy eat my dust with that kind of attitude.
Damage 4500 for 5 with drinks.

A Tragedy of Errors

Where do I begin...?

We read a lot of negative reviews about this place but decided to try it out for ourselves. For those not interested in the longer story, this was the worst dining experience I have ever had. The service is god-awful (not impolite but terribly untrained), the food would barely be called mediocre and they try and dress it up as a 'fine dining' experience when you have WWF playing on a wall projector!

Let me tell you our story.

Things started on a bad note, we walked in and were told by the polite lady at the entrance that there was no place (though we could see a table right in front of us). Her boss (perhaps the owner) came up and started yelling at her right in front of us, asking if all she does is 'sit around doing nothing'. Firstly, I don't believe staff should be treated badly and doing it in front of your customers does not inspire confidence.

So, we take our table and begin the 15 minute (I kid you not) wait for a) menus and b) WATER. The water finally took so long we switched to mineral water just to get it quicker.

The staff are so woefully untrained, while laying the crockery and cutlery they kept dropping stuff. The waiter set our places then realised he'd got the placing of the forks and spoons wrong... after studying the problem for a few minutes, he started over. By this time we had started finding the whole experience rather amusing so we were trying to keep straight faces.

We ordered the Kung Pao chicken, Thai green curry and steamed rice. The food came reasonably quickly and our waiter placed it on our table. He then opened up the curry and announced to us, 'You ordered green curry, but we made red, its okay na?' At this point I was actually expecting a candid camera or Mtv Bakra deal, however he was serious. This is when we suddenly get a loud shout from the waiter's station - "Have you got your NAPKINS?", we hadn't, so this kind soul threw us a napkin each and ran off to correct our order.

So the food was sent back, and after another wait, where we were entertained by a young lady near the entrance yelling "Shaamu, do you have my camera?" about 10 times (by which time we wanted to wander across and tell her where she could find her camera), we received our correct order. I will not try and gloss over this. The food is terrible. It has no salt (subjective, but I don't normally like much myself) and the Kung Pao chicken must have been an unlucky bird caught in an oil spill. I could literally paint my plate with the brown oil (this provides some entertainment while you wait for everything, kids might even get creative with it).

We decided that this place would take the royal flush if they managed to mess up the billing. They did. We waited as long for our food as we did for a bill of 3 items. The amounts were all okay though.

In closing, it's extremely unfortunate that this large property is being wasted like this. It is purely a management problem, as other people have said, the staff is just beyond clueless. You actually start feeling sorry for them after a point. Couple this with the way we saw the management treating them, one can expect this place has a pretty high attrition rate.

What can I say, my friends say I'm always too forgiving about places but I actually registered just so I could write this review. If nothing else it's taught me to trust the opinions on this site.

Ho Hum

Divided into three area - courtyard, bar and dining. Only the courtyard has great ambience but can get quite hot.

Started off with baked dim sum, golden fried corn and corn with watercress. Nothing worth writing about.

For the main course tried the vegetarian pizza and crostini platter. Quite good though a tad on the higher side.

The service was quite bad with the waiters just depositing the dishes on our table.

On the whole nothing great and can be given a miss.
