the best Maharshtrian food

Great Taste : Reasonable prices is the feature of New Sardar Hotel.
Missal , I would rate as the best in the town.I can say that because I am a die hard missal fan and have eaten missal at various places. Also the quantity is very good so the taste. Not just missal ,but batsal,Vangyachi [Brinjal] bhaji,Batata Wada is also great . The new addition [New sardar invention] Garlic Dosa is also very tasty and unique which you wont find at any other place so easily.
I have seen many people coming to this hotel for years to eat this special food.
The range of dishes is also unending with some new unique additions like Minerva and Trupti sandwitch also tastes different and have sardar touch.
I f you like maharshtrian food....you must come to New sardar ,I am sure you will come again and again.

BURRRRRP!

Burrrrrp!

Think about ‘New Sardar’, Kalachowkie, and one starts salivating! There is nowhere in this city where one can get anything like the choice of ‘mooh me paani’ misals, corn and cheese grilled alfa plus, batsal (meal in itself), garlic cheese dosa (ooh!), sania ('indian' cousin to 'english' alfa), etc.....etc, and at prices which are a steal! The iced tea is a 'must drink' here.

Vivek Prabhu, the 'Sardar of Kalachowkie', CA by qualification, but hotelier by heritage, is a foodie himself; a dreamer and a creator of exotic but simple innovations which he prices such that after hogging and burrrping, ones doesn’t find a hole cut into ones pocket! Vivek who has a great sense of humour, excells in pr, and can be seen sitting and chatting with his customers, explaining the fine points of his innovative creations. No wonder most customers one sees at the restaurant are regulars. By the way, the boss also eats here.

Although located at the heart of the ‘mill area’ of mumbai, the place has a great ambience, is spotless clean, and one is free to inspect the kitchen. One will notice that sardar clientele covers a spectrum from mill workers to bright young white collar exec's who are all there to enjoy the 'sardar' experience! Nothing to beat this place....try it out yourself! Parking space in plenty in the gully adjacent to the restaurant.

Keep it going, Vivek!

Abolute VFM

For a hotel that's been started in 1932, the place is absolutely neat and clean and very well maintained. It situated at the corner junction of two streets and can be mistaken for one of the old Irani joints. But make no mistake, the food's vegetarian and absolutely value for money.
After reading the earlier misal review on burrp, decided to try it out. Absolutely great tasting misals. Very well made.
Make it a point to meet the wonderful owner of the place, Vivek Prabhu. A third generation restauranteur, very well qualified (he's a Chartered Accountant) and very passionate about the food he serves. If you happen to be at the restaurant between 9.30 a.m. to 6.00p.m. you're sure to meet him.
On his recommendation, I tried out the iced tea and the Alpha Plus sandwich. The sandwich is an absolute melt-in-the-mouth dish served with mayo and ketchup. The iced tea is another speciality, not at all sweet like the packaged ones available. It's very refreshing, made fresh and is also available as a take-away in disposable glasses.
Also ordered the Garlic Cheese Masala Dosa. An absolutely unbelievable dish. This is the only restaurant to serve a Garlic Dosa in Mumbai. The taste is unbelievable and the garlic does not leave an aftertase in the mouth. A great recipe that Vivek's come up with.
Very Very value for money, when you take into account that the bill for 2 misals, 2 cups of iced tea, 1alpha plus sandwich and 1 garlic cheese masala dosa came up to Rs.172.00
Don't be put off by the name or the location. Wonderful food. Great Value. And an owner who's passionate about what he makes. One of the best combinations possible.

MUMBAI'S BEST MISAL

This place has won the award for best misal. The contest was held by Mumbai Times( a Times of India publication). Their misals are not watery and have a unique gravy like consitency. They have 3 types of misals 1) Original which is being sold from 1932, 2) Batasl ( a batata wada based misal ) and 3 ) Mysore Misal where in the farsan is of the spicy type.
This restaurant has invented the Garlic Dosa and till date is the only place in the world where this dish is available. A fact to be mentioned is that Garlci Dosas should be relished and not eaten . The flavour and taste lingers in the mouth long after the dosa has been eaten.
