Going down the drain...

I used to be a frequent visitor earlier where Koyla's black dal and roomali roti would be the craving factor. However now with my latest visit (my last one here), i differ from my previous opinions about this place.
Ambiance used to be great here, even during the summers the ample number of fans used to make it a pleasant roof top seating. Now its an effort to request the waiters to turn the fans on. Along the same lines, service was never the +ve point about this place but now its going deep down. As i said, to get the waiters attention was a project. ICed tea served was warm so when we raised this point to our server, he amusing answered that there is enough ice in there so it will become cold in sometime! Now one would think that atleast the food would be a saving grace, but so not! The paneer tikka was pathetic, paneer was chewy. The hara bhara kabab if thrown at you would leave a scar (a little exaggerated but the kabab was really hard). Our main course order was paneer makhani and black dal. while the former was overly sweet, the latter was decent but def not upto the mark. Roomali roti was cold and disappointing. 1600 for 5 - Damage.
It was a saturday night and the place was quite empty (very unlike the previous times). I think this restaurant is no more the star it used to be...I am glad i can scratch this off my fav restaurant lists with ease.

Love the ambience

Entering the Gulf Hotel you'd think the place would be really shady but surprisingly isn't. We went on a tuesday evening at 10 pm and they were full but luckily there was no waiting so we got a table soon enough.

Ambience & Decor: It is a great place to chill out at. There was good music playing. I like the way the place is done up with various seatings. Even the loo has a very rustic feel. Since it is winter the weather made the experience even better.

Food: Ordered Paneer tikka, Paneer do pyazza and dal makhani. Paneer tikka and dal was good but the dish of the day was the paneer do pyaza. Ordered a hooka also which was ok. Couldn't really taste the flavour well.

Service: The service was extremely good. The waiters were helpful and courteous especially since we were celebrating someones birthday. The best thing is even if you are having only hooka they let you sit in peace and not rush you.

Peeves: Unfortunately they now shut by 1 1:30 unlike earlier when they would remain open till three. They don't serve any alcohol.

Great place to hang out at especially since we have very few rooftop restaurants.

KOYLA, COLABA DOES SUCK!!

I have just returned from India and had gone back to Koyla to have a shisha. It is so shit, its not even worth calling it a shisha place. The shisha's all tasted like paan, no matter what flavour you had. The manager just stood there like a cock, thinking he is all that and the staff dont understand a word of fuckin enlish. Asked for a strawberry milkshake and was brought a strawberry ice cream and that was an hour after i had ordered it. For the common Indian person, the prices are over charged for what the service is, for us tourists it is quite cheap but I would never go again.
I had gone to another shisha place on a rooftop in Bhandra and that was quite nice. The service was ok but the shisha was nice. We didnt have to wait an hour for our order and the staff were very friendly and understood English exceptionally well. As for Koyla, Colaba fucking waste of time. People only go there cause Aisha Takia goes there, but she only goes there cus she is shagging the owners son.

It Sucks!!Don't Go!!To Be Very Frank!!

I went to koyla's the last time when it was my friend's farewell. And to be very frank for 1st time i realised what actually koyla deals with.We were 6 people and waiting for more than one and half hour.Still. we didn't get the table. And over all this when we order sheesha the waiter forgot the order so it adds 45 minutes extra to our time. That day we got out of the restaurant at 12:15 am.And really it kept us in disappointment. And the we took the oath that we won't go again to this cheap place where the staff thinks that they are favoring customers. They should learn first thing that customer is king. And to be frank i'm not talking about ambience and food.I'm talking about everything. The manager is standing in white shirt and tie and thinks that he is the owner. There's no thing as hospitality. No smile on anyone's face.It sucks and really not worth spending your hard earned money. But still if you want to try you can and have a experience of bad taste.Good luck
