I'd been here earlier basically to have a quick bite but only recollect a tinge of disappointment. But then as I passed by this, the swirling chunks of meat of the open shawarma oven tempted me. I got weak and readily agreed to give this one a second look!
What hits you here is that the decor, ambiance etc. is negligible as you sit by dingy roadside benches with eager canine expectantly looking at you from 10 feet away! Yes there was the resident limping dog of High Street Phoenix that was eying Maroosh fare much like I did! The menu cards are basic... large cardboards with menu printed on both sides. Prices are steep considering this practically IS roadside food, but then... its the HS Phoenix roadside and that costs you.
We ordered the Chicken Bhuna Roll (100/-), Chicken Bhuna Gravy (140/-), Mutton Dum Biriyani (160/-) and the Chicken Dum Biriyani (140/-). A shawarma came in first only to realise that we didn't order it and the people next to us almost pounced on us to claim it. After that embarrassment, our bhuna roll came in, slightly smaller than expected. First bite into it, and the bhuna gravy floored me. But the chicken seemed rock hard! Another bite and the chicken was solidly stiff. The waiter told us that it was like that because they have to roast it or it would disintegrate into the gravy. WHAT?!?! He then eyes the bottle of Bisleri I had and asks if I took it from their refrigerator. THE NERVE! Nevermind that their bottles were cold and mine wasn't and nearly empty. And for this kind of treatment, the bill comes with a compulsory 5% service charge! The biriyanis were nice but I was already regretting the visit.
All in all, the taste is nice but service totally sucks and the food didn't seem fresh to me and the limping doggie staring at you doesn't help. Not worth the price.
I'd recommend to move into the AC enclosure next door and chow down a sub instead for the same price.
