  • That's okay, we still love you.

  • Cringing, craving, bingeing, braving... you always have an opinion on what's hot and what's not in your city and we just love to hear it. Besides, there's no better place to satiate that itch to bitch!

  • Hara-kiri!!! 2009-12-28

It was one of those days when I craved a certain kind of food. This time, it was Japanese cuisine. Since the only friend who knew anything at all about restaurants in Mumbai that served good Japanese food was out of the country, I simply googled it.
Few options as it is and fewer in the suburbs. Decided to go with the one closest to us i.e. Tian in Juhu. The website was pretty neat and I was convinced that it would be alright.
We got there with our 3 year old daughter and just on entering the place, I knew I should just turn back but dint. Only two other tables were occupied (I should’ve seen the signs – when I called for a reservation, the person did not even bother asking for my name/number!!)
The place is anything but classy, décor is sad, they had these cheap Merry Xmas and happy new year streamers all over!
Also, the toilet is right next to the kitchen – you walk out of the toilet and almost walk into plates of the pickled cabbage and sweet cucumber! Gross!!

We sat down anyway and ordered a sushi platter – though the waiter was almost adamant that we try the ‘chicken sushi’(!!!)…and a plate of teriyaki chicken. We ordered 2 cocktails too (yes, we just dint listen to god’s warning signs).

The cocktails arrived… the Carribean Sunset tasted like cough syrup and the Sparky Lemonade was almost warm. I am no expert on Sushi but the sushi platter looked like it wasn’t right. My husband tasted and confirmed that it wasn’t right at all. The sweet rice was really really sweet. The teriyaki chicken was palatable but definitely avoidable.

We gave up on the Japanese food craving right after that and decided to order Chinese for the main course though I insisted that we just leave and eat at the CCD downstairs. But my husband was of the opinion that one cannot go wrong with Chinese. I doubt he will ever say that again. He ordered Chicken Hakka noodles and Hunan Chicken. The former was cold and the latter was definitely stale. It tasted weird and had a strange smell. I immediately forbade my daughter (who by this time was very hungry and annoyed that I wasn’t letting her eat anything on the table!) to stay away from the food.

Well, we then just asked for the cheque and walked out. A total waste of Rs.1700. A Complete disaster. My ever-positive husband of course said that it wasn’t a complete waste of money as we could put up this review and hope that several people save on a lot more money than that…oh well, when you put it that way….

The damage continues….both of us are down with a bad stomach today…people, stay away from this place – u’d rather just commit hara-kiri!
