    Since ancient times, Indian ragas have been associated with specific deities, colours, animals, seasons, and a time of day. Of these extra musical qualities the association with time and season is still alive in current practice perhaps because each period of the day or night, from dawn to dusk and dusk to dawn, has a characteristic ambience that arouses a special feeling. Mashkoor Ali Khan, son and disciple of sarangi maestro Shakoor Ali Khan, will discuss the melodic subtleties of Malhar family with a special focus on some of the treasured compositions by the stalwarts of Kirana gharana.
