Event DetailsLadakh, the land of mountains and passes in the heart of the Himalayas, attracts many tourists. But not many may have seen it in winter, its passes clad in ice. Nagwekar, who took the Chaddar trek in winter 2008, attempts to convey some of his wonderment through these images. The Zanskar river, the lifeline of people residing in small villages along its banks, freezes, forming an icy path along the Zanskar gorge. All roads remain almost completely closed during the months of deep winter, November to May. The local people trek across the frozen river, staying overnight in caves. The temperatures are between -20 to -40 degrees. These images capture some of the rough beauty of that part of the Himalayas.
