Good food

In this city I have been to places which has extraordinary ambiance but absolutely horrible food. And very few places with good ambiance and also good food, this place is one of them according to me. I have been to both B'lore branch and this branch of Angeethi and food is equally good in both and was very happy with the prompt service that we received. The best part the waiter waited close to our table and always on toes at one call. On reading the earlier reviews I ordered for a corn methi malai and peshwari mutton..with butter roti and rice. Have to agree the food tasted heavenly (sometimes when ur hungry everything taste good but thou I was hungry am specific about taste and mind it , it really was). Here the ambience was much like Blore one with filmy posters all around giving a feel of urban dhaba but not on a terrace but still it was simple and good. I was very skeptical on visiting this place and how the food will be but it turned out nice. I would love to visit this place again. Good things come at a good price and I believe this was worth it.(P.S the mutton was soft and chewy unlike the horrible mutton items I keep having at diff places which is priced reasonably but not edible). I will pay that extra to have it well cooked. :)

Dinner was neat and tasty

We went to celebrate my friend’s Birthday on Wednesday evening and to have dinner. I liked the ambience but this is no new to me as I went to their Bangalore version many times. A urban dhaba , a little darkness, big portraits of old movies, bamboo chairs and other things are just good...in fact I liked the chairs as it was very comfortable !!!
We got a separate section and we were immediately got our table as it was pre booked. The service came soon with the menu cards but we didn’t waste time to scroll through it…
We started with KF strong and along came 2 plates of Chicken tikkas, Mutton Sheek Kebab and Chicken reshmi kebab. All the preparations were very good, soft and juicy pieces of meats were just melting in mouth. The salad, pickled onion were a perfect match for the same.
We then ordered the main course of Jeera rice, butter roti, Dal fry and corn methi malai and Peshawari mutton karahi…
I will just describe the last two dishes as they were awesome and highly recommended…
Corn methi malai was soft, very malai and creamy dishes and perfect blend of spice and sweetness. Great to have it with butter roti..
Mutton was a definite sixer!!! Soft tender juicy and total boneless 5 to 6 big pieces were there.
Not too hot but very very definite with garam masala and other herbs and we couldn’t stop ourselves and order 3 plates of it. Beautifully cooked and mutton turned black after complete cooking but yet the pieces were juicy and succulent..
First time in Hyderabad in my 2 year tenure I had good mutton dishes. Every place they charge 200+ for mutton dishes but , what you get a small pieces of muttons and with full of bones, very spicy and thick gravy..
This was so very different…
The overall bill was 2400 for 6 people.
We got the finger bowl and the bill very quickly.
Service was good too.

Great food that cost a bomb!!!

We four people went to Angeethi on 17th December, 2011 for dinner. At first, we were disappointed to see that there are no buffet for dinner (Read my earlier review of Angeethi). Later, I came to know, that the buffet at dinner was only on occasion of a food festival. We were pretty disappointed hearing that, and one point contemplated of going down, cross the street and go to Bar-be-Que Nation!!

anyway, we setlled down. And one thing I discovered-- that their service, or "service initiation", has dropped dramatically. There are no person to show us the seats. We roamed aimlessly for first five minutes, and then someone pointed his finger to a corner table and said, "you can sit over there". We obliged. The menucard was given promptly. When we decided to order, again nobody was near by. I called few people by saying loud enough "hellos", but none came. Anyway, after five minutes someone came and took the order hurriedly.

Since there were two people who eate veg. we ordered one "Dilli ki teekhi murg", one "Paneer Tikka", one "Mutton Dum Biriyani" and one "Sabzi Biriyani". The portions were larger enough for two (or may be three). We could not finish the biriyanis, so have to pack it off.

Service for food is prompt.

My ratings:

Ambience (Weightage: 10%): 5/5
Service: (Weightage: 30%): 2.5/5 (need improvements in service initiation)
Food (Weightage: 30%): 4.5/5 (portions were large enough for three)
Value for money (Weightage: 30%): 3/5 (Bill for 4 came as 1500+, but liquor is damn costly)

Overall Weighted Average Rating: 3.5/5 (3.497, to be precise)

Good Food, Okay Service

The Ambiance is actually pretty good.

The service / waiter attitude was not that good. When asked to suggest some good Non-Veg starter, all he could recommend was chicken tikka, (which was actually good) but when I asked anything other than that, he drew a blank.

Palak Shorba: 5/5, quantity is less for its price
Chicken Tikka: 4/5, spice and the size was just right
Paneer Tikka: 5/5, fresh paneer, spice and seasoning is not over done.
Sarson ka saag: 3/5. Good, nothing special
Makki ki Roti: 5/5 FRESH !
Chicken Tawa biryani: 3/5, good, nothing special
Chicken Lahori: 2/5, not that good, too much color.

Overall: 4/5

EEE (Excellent, Economical but Ephemeral)

We celebrated a friend's wife's birthday in Angeethi on 23rd July 2011, and I was surprised (and delighted) to see a buffet for dinner. I remember that the buffet was earlier only for lunch and dinner was a-la-carte.

The ambience was good, as I had seen it 3 years ago. They could have done with little modifications for regular visitors like us.

The service, I am surprised, a bit slow. On every earlier occasions, the service was prompt and good.

The show-stealer was food. Starting from chaats (there were various chaats, and all mouth-watering) from starters to desserts through main-course, the journey was rewarding and fulfilling. I tried alu-tikki, raj kachori (both were fabulous), chicken roll, keema paratha, non-veg starters, mutton rogan josh, punjabi jhinga curry etc. There were 7-8 types of desserts, all lip-smacking.

The price for dinner buffet, on weekend, is rs 410 with taxes (per head).

Just Loved it!!!

As always... like the ambience.. liked the food....
We were too hungry and ordered quite some food... but we ended up having most of them to "take away"... I think the average price for 2 is no longer Rs 500... The prices have increased a bit... For 3 of us, it cost around 2K. But it was totally WORTH!!!!!
I recommended and will recommend everyone for this Restaurant :)

good value for money

i went to angeethi for lunch just once, and found it to be a good deal for the prices charged. i like the fact that the spread has many items. the food is not memorable, but pretty good value for money. the only hitch is the waiting time at lunch - which is probably good news, since it shows the restaurant is doing well!

Lunch buffet - totally worth it!

I went to Angeethi long ago when there was a punjabi fest - was disappointed then. Went with my colleagues and i must say, i changed my opinion.
The lunch buffet at Angeethi is a veggies delight. It has a pretty good variety of food items - especially in veg. The non veggies complained though, about less options.
To start off with the Good stuff - they had a lot of salads, which is good and all of them tasted awesome. Noteworthy ones are paneer-pineapple salad and bhindi carrot salad with sesame - something very different from what i had earlier and tasted yum! Paalak paneer was just too good - Creamy & mildly spiced, very well made. The gaajar ka halwa was heavenly. Not too sweet and slightly warm - just perfect!
Needs to improve the veg biryani asap- although its visual appeal was good, the same can't be said when it enters the mouth. It was tasteless. The ras malai had too much of artificial flavors in it. The other food items were passable.
All in all - it was a good experience - the place was crowded even on a Monday, which shows Angeethi is maintaining its consistency time and again.

Solid Sunday brunch buffet

While I'm definitely not much of a buffet fanatic, I had a pleasantly positive experience at Angeethi (unlike a previous reviewer, I found it to be quite clean and well-presented...except for a few children dipping their hands directly in the buffet plates. But I'd blame that on poor parenting, not on the restaurant). I've posted up about my experience on my blog at:

Angeethi - pakka pet bar jaati

It was a pre-planned weekend lunch with 5 of my colleagues at this place. Nothing went unexpected. we thoroughly enjoyed the food, especially the lavish spread of starters, the tawa fish and the chicken showarma that were too good.
As it was a friday afternoon the place was very crowded and we had to wait for the cutlery and stand in the queue which was annoying...
I gave the same feedback to them and the manager called me in the evening and apologized for the inconvenience and promised better service in my next visit that inclined me to start planning to go back to Angeethi again at the earliest.

If your are going for buffet go with empty stomach

went here for buffet lunch charging 250 per head, lots of items are there in both veg and non-veg section but you can't eat them all so if you are going for a buffet go with empty stomach. Food tastes good and ambiance is in typical Punjabi dhaba style. Overall it is ok for casual lunches. But the service charges are too high.

Good place, but stay away from the buffet

Quite a regular here, but the buffet lunches tend to get extremely chaotic and unclean everything in a mess.

Lassi is excellent, slightly on the expensive side, parking can be a big problem and getting to the restaurant is a bigger problem with the elevator service quite inadequate.

Overall a very good proposition

Good Punjabi Food

Occasion: I visited Angeethi on my Marriage Anniversary.

About Food: We ordered Sanson Ka Saag and Mix Veg (they have a different name for it);

Quality of Food: Sanson da saag was pretty good; in-fact I found it the perfect one, more delicious that our home made one. Mix Veg was okay; average taste; nothing very good
Rating: 4.5 Stars

Ambiance: its a typical neat dhaba; quite filled with people; no open space; congested; Seating arrangement was okay;
Rating: 3 Stars
Cons: No Open space

Prices: They are on the higher side; what pinched me, is the price of simple naan; it was 40; and compared to the price, it seems over-priced i.e. ~25 should be okay. Anyway, it was my marriage anniversary, so anything was okay :)
Rating: 3.5 Stars

Overall, for foody people, who do not care much about the ambience, like me, this is excellent.

Good food

The food is nice and well cooked. The DAL at this place is worth trying. Its well cooked and delicious. Its decently priced and good service element also adds the value to what you pay. the only thing which I found a bit costly was the drinks. Just a bottle of 330 ml of Thumsup costs Rs 70 + Taxes which costs mere 10-12 rupees in the market. Besides drinks I guess the menu is decently priced and gives good value for money.

Great ambience, Great food

Went to Angeethi for dinner yesterday and had an amazing time. The ambiance is great. Basically it is a recreation of the typical Punjabi dhaba complete with old Hindi movie posters adorning the walls.

Because of its popularity I have always had to wait to get a table but surprisingly there was not much of a crowd there (yesterday being a weekday i suppose).

The service was quick and efficient. And the food was spectacular. Must recommend the Veg Biryani and the Corn Methi Malai. Super stuff.

Best North Indian food in Hyd

I found this to be the best place for north indian food in hyd. None of the other restaurants (even star hotels) come close to this in terms of food quality/taste.

Vegetarians must try the "dum aloo kali mirchi". Ambience is great (dhaba setting) and the place is always lively (don't expect a quiet meal).

Tip: do NOT try their appetizer platter.. its unecessarily expensive with little variety!
Also, if visiting on a weekend, go early... there's no reservation after 8pm and this place gets to see half of Hyderabad! (the other half go to the pathetic dhabas on medchal road :p)

Go without expectation!

Here is my take on the restaurant

1.Food (3/5) – Was reasonable. Nothing out of the world. Would have expected a little more in terms from a BJN group. Try - Dal makhani and finally a pan.
2.Ambience (4/5) – The place is nice, interestingly made up to resemble a road side dhaba. But would have appreciated better seating that goes with feel and look of the place. A netted coir cot (like the ones in roadside dhaba) would have been good idea. Anyways, I noticed that it seemed quite popular among the foreigns guests/visitors. (Probably due to proximity to the Taj Hotels!)
3.Service (3/5) – Nothing much to complain here. Simple good service.
4.Price (4/5) – May be on slightly on expensive side if you order liquids. But it’s BJN Group so one cannot compare it to a smaller chain/group. A table for two (Veg) should cost you around Rs.400 to 500. Give the central location and the reputation of BJN group, I would not call it very expensive.

But suggest you go without too much expectation (difficult after reading all the reviews :)).

Authentic Punjabi!!!

While many restaurants in the city claim to offer ‘asli Punjabi khana’ few do justice to this tag. In fact, the tag itself has become such a cliché what with every other restaurant in the city claiming that its dal makhani and Punjabi chole are as authentic as they come. However, one restaurant that is an exception to this rule, thankfully, is Angeethi situated in Banjara hills. The word Angeethi in hindi roughly translates into an open stove that burns charcoal to keep rooms warm during winters. Everything from the name to the ambience not to mention the food is strictly Punjabi and as you walk in you will unmistakably notice that. Coming to the food, it was a scrumptious buffet with a wide variety of both veg and non veg dishes. If you are the health conscious kind, be advised that all the dishes, although tasty, were rich in ghee. The food is moderately priced and a meal for two is unlikely to exceed Rs. 400-500. If you are a Punjabi food fanatic make sure you check out this place.

Never Order Fluids @ Angeethi !! itz EXPENSIVE

Worst part of this restaurant is beverages are damn expensive . Mineral Water (1 ltr) is Rs.60 and Soft Drink (200 ml) is Rs.60. While having dinner at restaurant, people order these drinks without fail.So they should offer this at reasonable prices. Another worst drink they have is Soup’s(100 ml) which costs Rs.70. This Soup is served in a 100 ml tea glass. The only difference from normal Tea glass which we get in tea shops is they offer soup in the same tea glass but it is kept in a small jug made with Brass metal … My sincere suggestion who ever visiting Angeethi is please “ Refrain from ordering fluids ” as these prices are not at all reasonable…It costs me Rs.800(incl. tax) just for odering 6 Soft Drinks (200ml each), 2 Mineral Water(1000 ml each) & 4 Soups (100ml each) ...
This is pure Punjabi Dhaba resemblance restaurant with good ambience but
Seating arrangement is bit congested. Items listed in Menu book are very tough to understand and place the order. People visiting for the first time should definitely take help from waiters before placing the order. probably Buffet cud be a good deal which serves from Monday to Saturdat Afternoon's @ rs.199

The Best Dhaba in Twin Cities

I am a hardcore Hyderabadi and let me tell you that I have been searching for a great dhaba here. I have visited Degchi and Nirulas in Hasbiguda but not quite convinced about them. I couldn't find any impressive dhabas on the highways too. Till date the best dhaba that I found is in Chennai - The Lahori Dhaba in Cenatoph road.

Angeethi in Hyderabad is best in its class. If you are looking for an unmatched, authentic punjabi fare, look no further. The food, ambiance and service are great and live up to the standards of BJN group. Compared to mediocre restaurants in Hyderabad, this place offers a great value for money.

I have also been to Samarkhand in Bangalore and liked it too.

I strongly recommend this place if you are looking for some variety and want to have a memorable dining experience.

Amitabh da dhaba

This is an Amitabh themed dhaba that serves a mean buffet. The food is great, and the Surma Bhopali panwala dhukan inside bought back some good bollywood memories. Just one crib. They made us listen to Himesh Reshammiya all the time. For a Big B themed restaurant, I expect them to unleash "Rang Barse" or "Khaike Paan Banaraswala". That would made it perfect.

Excellent buffet!

The place to go to if you have a nice buffet in mind. Or kebabs for that matter because they serve some of the best in Hyderabad. Their preparations are pretty much of the order of other BJN stalwart restaurants like Samarkhand(Bangalore). However, its the congestion and the lack of proper waiting place at this restaurant that can sometimes kill the joy of eating at this place. Expect a minimum waiting time of 45 minutes at any mealtime and the less said about their concept of telephonic reservations the better. The people have to wait right next to the tables, and if you are unlucky enough to be seated at one of those tables then expect a 101 stares at your food which is bound to kill anyone's appetite.
