The food is good, the service & hygiene needs to be checked. The food is good, the service & hygiene needs to be checked.

Location: Park Street.

This is a place where I have been so many times!

Serves great food. Have tried both Chinese and Indian cuisines out here and both are absolutely amazing.
But yes, with little yet major flaws.

Being to the point,

Chinese:

- Veg Hakka noodles: Perfectly tossed and cooked with the veggies being juicy.
- Veg Manchurian: The dumplings were delicious and the gravy tasted great.
- Veg American Chopsuey: Crispy noodles with the perfectly made sweet chopsuey sauce (actually not recalling what it's called, sorry). Super Yummy.
- Chilli Garlic Noodles: Perfect. Simply perfect.

Indian:

- Dal Makhani: Low on salt, but great to taste when salt levels are perfected.
- Paneer Butter Masala: Delectable. Recommended.

- Chana Masala: Perfectly cooked. Has been given some soaking time. Happy. Recommended.

- Butter Naan: Soft and brushed with little butter. Satisfactory.

- Tandoori Roti: Sad. Wasn't made to choice, and was so crisp that it felt as if eating papad. :-(

Now,
Talking about the hygiene,
Until the last two visits it felt top notch.

But, sorry to say have encountered this problem couple of times now and hence forced to make an impression of low hygienic levels.

Came across these in the last two visits:
-The plates were dirty.
- Cutlery wasn't changed while tables were cleaned. Used ones were kept.
-Glasses weren't properly cleaned. Lip marks could be seen. Yuck!

Disgusted regarding this issue.
Things were taken care of after bringing into the notice of the manager.
But I suppose these things should be taken care of inside the kitchen.
Does this mean the kitchen hygiene levels are too low?
Wish to check the kitchen hygiene levels one day!

Staff was well-informed yet laid back and grumpy.

Overall a Mixed experience.
- Wish to see better things out here.Location: Park Street.

Bar-B-Q is located park street area near Oasis. The most famous restaurant in the heart of he Kolkata. Bar-B-Q is one of the finest restaurants at Park st.Here The Chinese dishes are mouth watering. we have tried chicken Szechuan Chow-min, Chicken Hakka Chow-min , Kung Pao Chicken , Pineapple Blossoms and deep sea Mock tails. chow-mins are so good in taste and mock-tails are so refresh mental but i don't like their Kung pao chicken.
The ambiance of this restaurant is average, services are also too slow but the staffs are very polite and well mannered

Lunch at ‘Bar-B-Q’

I have been going to this restaurant since my early childhood, with my parents and just like Peter Cat they have maintained their style. Bar B Que is certainly one of my favourite all time Chinese restaurants, I definitely would recommend the Chinese food. Today after a very long time we decided to visit Bar B Que. We went there to celebrate the birthday of Soumitra Kumar Sahoo, one of my colleague alongwith our friend Vidyasagar Das.

We ordered ‘Malai Chicken Kebab’ as starter and for main course I ordered ‘Prawn in Hot Garlic Sauce’ & ‘Bar B Que Special Fried Rice’, Sahoo and Vidyasagar ordered ‘Mutton Biryani’. The food was not as good as it was when the last time I visited. The quality of food and service might have deteriorated a bit after all these years that only the regular goers would agree with but the place is nevertheless worth going. The portions they serve were amazing quantity but honestly, I feel that the food is overrated. Still if you have never been there I would suggest just go there. It is an amazing family restaurant so drop in once if you haven't already.

Awesome Ambiance

This is truly a grand place to dine out and one of my favourite. A place with elegant interior and delicious garnished foods. I have visited this place a number of times and ordered many dishes. And every time it is a very good experience. Crispy chilly baby corn is one of the favourites. I love the different types of soups that they serve too.

CHEERS...CHEERS...

This is an iconic restaurant which has managed to maintain its quality over the years! The proverb "old is gold" fits perfect for this joint. It is one of the oldest restaurants in Park Street and is definitely regarded as one of the pioneers. The moment you enter from the entrance gate to the wooden stairs covered with clean and lavish carpet will remind you of the royal bygone era of the city of joy. From the ambiance to the decor it takes you to a nostalgic and imperial trip. I have been to this restaurant a number of times and till date i have never been disappointed. The red pepper chicken, crispy fried chili chicken, boneless chili chicken and the Bar-B-Q specials are mouth watering. Bar-b-q is among those place who never compromises with the quality, they still serve with the same amount of gratitude and grace as they used to in the distant past. So in order to pamper yourself in utmost quality cuisines ranging from India to our fellow neighbor China, there is no other place as legendary as Bar-B-Q. One of The Best For Chinese in Town !!

I visited this restaurant a few days back with my friend. I was blown away by the ambience , its one of the best I have been TO so far . The staffs were very cordial and suggestive. We started with Drums of Heaven which was truly remarkable. Its was crispy and delicious . For the main course,we decided to go with devil’s chicken and mixed fried rice (without pork). The rice was filled with prawns, chicken and mushrooms, and was extremely tasty. Devil’s chicken is a spicy dish and very popular even. The pieces of chicken were so soft and the gravy was so perfectly cooked . The quantity of food was appropriate and the price is also very reasonable. It really serves one of the best Chinese food in Kolkata.

Good

For stags : Ambience is not bad.
For Family : Ambience is good and is one of the largest restaurants of Park Street. Cost for two is around 500. Quantity is good. One main course and a side dish will suffice for a couple.
Quality of food is good. One may try both the Indian a well Chinese. I have been there many times and have tried most of the Chinese dishes. Good among those are : red pepper chicken (dry appetiser), Kung pao chicken (less spicy side dish), devils chicken (spicy brown side dish), barbique special fried rice(prawn, chicken, pork) and barbique special gravy chow min (prawn, chicken, pork). One may also try the shezwan chicken(spicy dish), chilly chicken. Most of the chicken dishes have sliced chicken, except a few like the devils chicken.

Best Chinese Restaurant - Bar- B- Q

Bar-B-Q is undoubtedly the best Chinese restaurant of Kolkata. The food quality, taste, service, location and ambiance is first class. Crispy chill baby-corn, American corn pepper salt and chilly paneer are among the best veg starters. The spicy sauce which they serve along with the starters is delicious.Whenever you think of dining at Bar-B-Q, try to go early as tables start getting filled as early as 7. The pricing is also quite average as compared to other restaurants

Very good food!

This place is a Park Street institution, and it serves up to its fame. Chinese cuisine here is delectable, especially the lamb dishes. The ambiance is quite good, and the staff are well versed. However, the old, damp feel and the flickering lights did not exactly make us smile. But overall, proper value-for-money and a good experience.

Disappointing.

Very Generous! :)

The place is very well decorated and has elegent, sophisticated style. The food maybe is not extraordinary but trust its very reasonable and the amount is VERY generous. I remember I ordered a Chicken side dish - its crispiness was superb and there was a LOT on the plate. I was so happy with the amount and its taste... I gobbled it up pretty quick! :)
Anyway its a very good place if u are very hungry or want to give your friends a treat.. :)

Unnecessarily overcrowded

I went to bar-b-q and ordered crispy chilly babycorn , chinese salad , black dal and worst of all paneer butter butter masala. The paneer was awful looking yellow in colour, was utterly tasteless and extremely low in quantity. Chinese salad was tasteless, all I tasted was vegetables no flavour of seasoning and no taste of any sauce. I had ordered a fresh lime soda and asked him for some ice cubes. As soon as he put an ice cube the glass broke and all the fresh lime was poured onto me. I called the manager who replied "IT HAPPENS!!!!!!!!" He never really apologized. This is what I got for waiting for 30 mins queuing. I never really understood why people actually go there.

Go for Indian, Chinese is really meh!

Bar-B-Q has a long history and a strong nostalgia about it. I have been visiting this place for their Indian fare for decade or even more.

On my last week visit to Kolkata, I went to this place twice, once for Chinese, second time for Indian.

Chinese -

This visit was totally let down. Firstly 45 mins wait time, second service was rock bottom, we had to repeatedly ask for water, menu. We were 9, we all ordered soups. First came 2 soups and then after 15 mins other soups were brought. Not good.

We ordered 2 starters(baby corns, mushrooms), 2 main course(rice and noodles) and one sweet-n-sour. Noodles were nice, everything was forgettable. Being from Mumbai, I would say I get better Chinese even for home delivery.

So much hype, zero substance! If not for good company with me, I would have left this place midway and would have gone somewhere else.

1/5

Indian -

As expected Indian didnt let me down.

Paneer Tikka(repeat), Tandoori Aloo has starters were just fantastic!

Being a fan of Kabli naan(and apart from Copper Chimney in Mumbai, no where else I get it), I had to order this along with Dal Makhni. Both were finger licking good! Service was good too!

5/5

Though I shud mention my Chinese visit was on a Sunday(Dussera) so may be the service and the food was bad because of the mad rush. Though still a lame excuse for me.

Indian fare shines, Chinese fare from my experience sucks!

Old is gold in Park Street

Excellent place. Excellent ambiance. You can have a good view of Park Street sitting in the restaurant. Probably 500 people can sit and eat there at a time. The Chinese food is excellent. Take advice of the waiter in selecting food. Try Hunan Chicken. You would be bowled. The rate is very cheap compared to other restaurants coming up here and there in Calcutta like mushrooms.

Literally GREAT

Bar B Q - Kolkata

Mumbai, where I am from, doesn't have the luxury of space. Bar-B-Q is just HUGE... The place is divided into the Chinese and Indian section for convenience of serving food, but they serve either of the food in both the places. There was also a small section for the pub. The tables are arranged neatly. Its good to sit on the Mezzanine as the crowd is less and you get a good view of the crowd.

The place was immensely crowded, understandably on a Saturday night. But I was told that the place is even otherwise full. Be prepared for a wait time of over half n hour.

Food here is just tooo good. Crispy Baby Corn and Crispy Fried Mushrooms were really good to taste and go along with Booze. On the Indian menu, the Naan was really nice, thick well made. Even the Dal and Paneer were really good. I wish I hadn't stuffed myself with booze and starters - so that I could enjoy the food.

Service is good. The waiters keep running here n there. Ambience is good as well. Parking could be a problem at times, but there are enough places in the nearby lanes.

An absolute recommendation

Huge Place - Always crowded

This place is huge. I don't know how many it can seat, but it has got at least 3 large dining halls. The atmosphere is quite noisy inside. The food is strictly OK. You will not be disappointed with the food, but there is nothing unique about the food. It is just like any other multi cuisine restaurant. The service is a little slow and with the huge crowd mess ups with the order are quite common.

An interesting fact is that on weekends they only allow families and if you go a complete stag group you are bound to get a blatant "NO" and whats more they direct you to their bar on the ground floor, which is like some ugly Desi Bar. Don't go on weekends if you are going stag. Else, visit the place if your around that area.

The major thing is chinese(though always preferred the tangra chinese), But a hot favorite with the office crowd for celebrations.

Someone had wrangled a deal to take own bottle & sit on the first floor, chinese, for the pure indian, some paneer, chicken kababs (do not know if they cook it or get it from outside:))
