A nice place to be at for a perfect luncheon or dinner

Well..after seeing all the reviews of this place i decided to go there on lunch with my mother.
Starting with the decor, i would say it is amazing. That south indian decor and wooden planks make u feel different.
Next, the staff, very cordial and kind.
And then, food. I ordered for Mirch aloo ka salan and masala aloo kulcha. The kulcha was tasty and nicely made. Mirch aloo ka salan was good too. It had spices in it which made it taste better.
Then..we ordered for Hyderabadi chicken biriyani and Chicken Chettinad. And i loved the food.
I was so full that i couldn't order anything more for deserts.
And something worth mentioning is their complimentary serving of butter milk in the beginning and mishti paan with coconut filling at the end.

South Ka Khaana With a Tang

Tamarind comes with a wide array of non-vegetarian dishes, irrespective of the picture you have in your mind of the bland idli, sambar, dosa of south Indian cuisine. The appam, which is like a rice roti can be teamed up finely with chicken chettinad, along with which they also have spicy red dry chicken and thick mutton soup. I am a bit skeptical about the flavor of coconut milk in my dishes but then the dishes here are are finely done and well blended to suit the sensitive taste buds. Nice authentic ambiance, located in a strategic point in the city , near Deshapriya Park, so well accessible too!

The Royal Touch

I did hear about the Naga Jholokia's but this was my chance to experience something close to that, that too in Kolkata! Never thought of such a restaurant that can embody the culture of the "South" amicably! It's sad that I haven't been there during my tenure in Kolkata but now that burrp has given me this opportunity, I couldn't resist! The customized food items that had been brought in straight from the royal gharana of the South, we could perhaps pitch in and savor the culinary delights at ease. The cost is moderate too, it might just take you a mere 750 for 2 to taste the finest food items ever, the service is amicably nice! Do try the customized paneer recipes there!

Excellent authentic south indian

I am quite regular to this place and have never found anything adverse about the food and the service. The ambience is just perfect. The aroma of the authentic south indian food {though names are difficult to pronounce ;) } is excellent. My personal favourites are:

Bangla Dumpa Veppudu, Kuzhi Paniyaram (Veg Starters)

Kothmiri Paneer, Alugedde Roast, Mirch aloo ka salaan (Veg main course)

Bakharkhani & Ceylon Paratha are the breads (Roti) that I prefer

Try the Hyderabadi Subz Biryani with Hyderabadi Subz Handi - a deadly combination for biryani lovers.

There are many mocktails available to quench your thirst in style.

Lastly, one can try the Double ka meetha (for serious sweeeeet lovers) and excellent Banana Fritters.
