Experience of a Kind "Mumbai to Bombay few steps" 2011-09-02
This place has always make me wonder if it is connected to "Merwans" in Andheri (W), and I somehow feel "Yes"; "B. Merwan" is the originator (Less sophisticated and more original) of the other outlet in Andheri.
I have always been curious about visiting this place but was never sure until I stepped in one day, and VOILA!! it looked like BOMBAY (I stress "Bombay" and not Mumbai) it had that old Bombay charm left in it, which Mumbai no more has. This review is only for their bakery products.
Bought 2 cakes from them – a plum cake and one normal mawa cake. There was nothing special about either of the cakes and they tasted pretty ordinary like the ones purchased from any of the numerous non-descript bakeries across the city. Also, the plum cake hardly had any plums. Pricing is reasonable, again at par with all the other bakeries. -

Be prepared for a different experience. No Bills are provided on your table, the payment is shouted over to the cash counter. And they have fabulous delights in their Mawa Cakes ( Muffins actually), mawa samosa , custard, pudding, biscuits and other bakery items.
Also recommended is the half fry , omelettes with maska pav. Variations are available in the tea. Paani Kum, Mafak ( less milk, more water etc).
I have been here since my childhood days and the place has not changed one bit. This is a place frozen in time.

B. Merwan and Company simple rules!
They've been around for almost 100 years and they got to be doing something right to rock it for so long. Their mawa cakes and mawa samosas are my personal favourite. Only to be out done by the significantly supreme Veg Patty! Oh my sweet sweet Veg Patty.
The place has old world charm that cannot be replicated by cheap immitators in Andheri. The owner is awesome, brilliant and fantastic to say the least. This place is a must visit for anyone who's passing by the city to get a taste of the true Mumbai.
