Melting Idlies 2012-05-10
I went to Matunga for my work, felt bit hungry so thought of having some snacks instead of having some junk I said lets hav some South Indian.So we had to first wait for 15 mins but got a place @ upper maze-nine floor.we had Idlies(20Rs.) & filter coffee(15Rs.), Idlies were soft & were melting in mouth but sambar was very less it was good though, Coffee was strong enough to wake u up.god place to go with frnds but crowded.Would go again to try Puliyogara rice & appam. -

delicious south indian food 2012-04-22
visited this place after reading all the reviews on burrp. and let me tell you all i wasnt disappointed at all it had delicious south indian food i ever had and at such an economical rate i couldnt try pineapple sheera as they didnt have it. i have a reason to visit the place again :-)
its damn crowded on sunday so you better be ready to wait at least for 30 mins!! -

Good food but can't beat Sharda Bhavan! 2012-03-28
Superior idlis and mysore sada dosas compared to other matunga restaurants. The sambar is good but is no match for Sharda Bhavan. Highly Recommended but beware of the Sunday evening crowds! -

Awesome food... Value for Money 2012-03-19
I have visited this place 2 times in last one week. Why so frequently? B'se i loved the food. Went for lunch this sunday with my wife and daughter and enjoyed really delicious dishes. Recommended would be- Idli butter pudi, Upma Pudi & Rasam Wada. The sambhar and chatni were delicious and thick with no water added to increase the quantity. Had to wait about 45 min to get myself a place but at the end of the day, it was all worth it. -

Best south indian snacks fare in Mumbai 2012-03-03
I've been visiting this place frequently (read 3 times a week) since the past 2 years. Trust me, the place has no competition when it comes to 'Set Dosa' and 'Pineapple sheera'. Though not the best ambiance for an eatery, the restaurant comes across as clean, quick and has a great value for money. They have a limited menu and every dish on the menu is tasty and liked by most of the people.
Average meal for 2- Rs 150-200
Best time to visit- Between 4 pm - 8 pm (not much crowded at this time)
Best dishes- set dosa, pineapple sheera, dahi missal, rasam, vada, etc (actually everything)

Worth the South India Feel 2012-02-26
We were six of us and we went around 5 in the evening hence it dint take much time to get a table othrwise i'v heard bout the Longgggggggg que! We ordered Butter-Idli, masala dosa, bisi-bele bath, uttapam, chow-chow bath and tea, lemon crush. All the dishes made us lick our fingers, besst part was we dint hav to wait long between orders. Don't go for the ambience at all, a very small place with a semi-1st floor i'd say.. go for its taste and that added variety in the menu.. loved the experiments with Idli.. :)
Finally the value came out to be 140/- per head and it was hence more than Wort -

Nice scenery in the mornings 2012-02-22
After a night of drinking and partying, or just plain old staying awake- I feel very cynical and negative about the gloomy prospects for the human race and how filthy Mumbai is and how unfortunate I am to still be stuck here etc.
Madras cafe is just the remedy the doctor ordered. Nice looking girls fresh out of bed without makeup who still look hot, good dosa, idli, vada, sambar and good tamilian "filter" coffee- few things in life can cheer you up better than a combination of all these items under the same roof. I will now elaborate on these points.

Keeping in mind the other south Indians joints like Manis,Ramashraya this palce is way down in quality of food.
Idlis dosas are simply OK.Sambar Chutney not that good still rates are bit infalted -

The best south Indian you can get in Mumbai- and you'll love the food consistently everytime you are here...everything is so fresh, so hot, so nice...!
Yes there's no ambience to speak of but let's face it- you cannot complain if you have brilliant food at such unbelievable prices!!! -

Need to take off the 'Madras' from its name!! 2011-11-17
As a true-blue southie, i can say that any restaurant in Madras/Chennai will give this place a run for its money. Forget that - most places in Matunga and even Mysore cafe is better than Madras cafe. Their sambar is watery and dosa like chips/wafers. Its embarrassing to take friends and cousins from Chennai to this place. The first couple of time i went there were slightly disappointing, but i just thought it was a bad day for them. The last time i went was just simply awful. Not gonna go back there in a hurry! -
