With Mumbai's manic monsoon beating down on window panes, the insufferable summer appears to belong to a distant past. An odd time then for the launch of Cocoberry, Mumbai's first frozen yoghurt store. The Delhi based chain was setup in February 2009 and is a week old in Mumbai. While frozen yoghurt has long been a popular dessert option in the West, it is only just finding an audience in India, a nation otherwise obsessed with yoghurt.
The vibrant store appears a strong competitor in an already populated restaurant strip in Pali Naka. Cocoberry offers four frozen yoghurt flavours, one of which rotates as per the season. Since it is a rather new venture, patrons are welcome to sample each of the current four flavours, which include Original, Mango, Blueberry and Strawberry. To further enhance the fresh fruit flavours customers can opt from interesting toppings such as Oreo cookie crumble, almonds, walnuts, chocolate chips, chocolate flakes, fresh fruit pulp and pomagranate seeds. The servings vary from small to large and are priced between Rs 59 to Rs 249.
Cocoberry offers a friendly lounging space and also serves up grilled pita sandwiches and other cold beverages like ice teas and ice lattes. While frozen yoghurt is their core product, the store also serves fresh fruit smoothies (Rs 149) and fresh fruit combo's (Rs 329 for large platter). The menu is certainly attractive for health freaks although prices lean towards steep. The yoghurts are smooth, finely textured and made of fresh fruit pulp with no artificial preservatives. Cocoberry certainly deserves a sampling, although may not necessarily be a daily option in the fashion of ice cream or gelato owing to higher price points.
