Was at Del Italia for lunch today (Sunday) and I have to say the place was below expectations for me. Had heard some good things about it and read a few good reviews too so was (as always) excited to try a new place. But honestly my experience was pretty luke warm...with some pretty bad and pretty good thrown in!
The decor is decent, a sort of mediteranean-gone-mass. The place was fairly empty at around 1 when we got there, and even when we left at 3.30, it wasn't quite full the way you'd see at most half decent restaurants on a Sunday afternoon in Bby. To start with they were out of artichokes so that meant neither the starter nor the salad that I was interested in ordering were an option.
Disappointed I ordered some stir fried mushroom starter which wasn't too bad. Except for some reason it looked like a tiny quantity on a small side-plate so presentation was clearly not a strong point here. My friends ordered a pizza which they say was pretty good.
As a maincourse I had the wood fired aubergines and pesto lasagne. What a mistake. Not only did everyone's maincourse take more than 30 - 40 mins to surface, mine was oily to say the least. And it tasted masala-fied, no hint of subtle flavour here. Hey, if I wanted masala pasta I would have just gone to Little Italy. And the service there would probably faster than the snail's pace they had here. Ofcourse from what I understand, the non-veggie options were much better and my husband actually thought his fish dish was excellent. Oh well....
And now the only reason for why I gave this place 3 instead of 2 stars. The dessert (Limoncello cheese cake) and cappucino were both very good and the sole redeeming factor to this otherwise ordinary place. I must say the cheese cake was a generous large slice that tasted very fresh with just the right hint of lemony flavour. Really good stuff.
So I'd say if you have to go here (especially if you're like me and always up for trying new places), do so for a cup of good coffee and some excellent cheesecake. Otherwise veggies of the world, give this place a miss.
