Having heard and read so much about these restaurants we decided to try out Diva Maharashtra which turned out to be one huge very expensive mistake.
To begin with the place is incredibly garish and over the top. One is subjected to large posters of the owner and his wife on the wall, the menu, every where. Each time the door to the kitchen opens one can see the interiors which look less than desireable and unhygenic.
We had to wait a good 40 mins before our starters showed up. During this wait the waiter brought us the owners visiting card. A few minutes later a book with all the rave reviews in various newspapers (all paid for I am sure). The ego trip self promotion of the owners just does not stop. What is is really in poor taste is how the owner who is an ex police officer has some of his pics in his police uniform with some write up. Not really sure what he is trying to prove.
In the 40 mins wait our drinks were over and we were ravaneous but our request for peanuts or something to eat was shot down.
The service was cordial but poor.
The food was okay but terribly overpriced. A poori bhaji cost us over Rs. 150 !! A bombil starter was for Rs. 250 + taxes.
What was also tacky was a notice handed to each of us saying that since BMC water was in short supply and hence well water was being served and it is recommended we drink bottled water (Rs. 49).
Over all an unpleasant experience and we could not wait to leave the place to never return.
