  • very dissappointing 2011-08-15

on a rainy friday evening, we decided to head to Phoenix to try out the recommended sea food at gajalee. The problem starts at the beginning - we were with our kid (just about 1 year) and we were told that we will get a table in 5 mins. We loitered around and kept checking for the table. Finally after 20 mins and that too after we threatened to walk out we got a table. I understand if there is no table but why make false promises.

Food, we order the bombil fry and the waiter recommended prawn koliwada. For drinks, we ask for the wine list - apparently they had only two wines, one the heard but now closed chateau indage and the other was a completely unknown nasik wine and the waiter was trying to convince on this. We settled for the known chateau indage - guess some of the old stock is still left. The bombil fry had almost no salt and the coating was thick and fish was thin so it felt I was having fried coating with no salt. The prawn koliwada was a shade better but again nothing close to good. Complained to the senior waiter about the starters but got only false apologies and a recommendation to try butter pepper garlic prawns - this was again a shade better but then again nothing like the one at trishna. Was totally disappointed by now - ordered some pomfret curry and rice. Again the pomfret was not marinated so there was no salt in it. The gravy was bland and even the steamed rice was a tad undercooked. Overall, a terrible experience. The place is very expensive - we had to shell out Rs3000 got 2 people - a bottle of wine, 3 starters and 1 main dish. Also portions are very small. Will never recommend And would never go again. Would prefer jai hind lunch home, trishna or mahesh lunch home anytime. I just wonder how come these places still run - why people still go to such places?
