  • Cheap drinks, decent crowd, bad staff... 2011-12-13

I'm a frequent visitor here and it's true that I might not find a cheaper watering hole in my locality and might have to travel all the way to Gokul in town if I wanna get the same kind of alcohol/atmosphere. One constant complaint I've had is the owner and his attitute. He's probably never going to read this and it's not going to change anything about the place; but there is a hilarious yet annoying incident that happened to me here. I walked in with my laptop the other day and wanted to show my friend a picture that was saved on it. So I switched it on for five minutes and was asked by the staff... read more

  • It is the experience. End-of-month style. 2011-06-27

In the world of traveling, people say 'The journey is more important than the destination'. And some of it is true when a foodie says 'The experience is more important than the food'. If you even slightly agree with this saying I just made up, Janata is a place you should visit. This small 'lunch home' is part of Discovery Channel's Lonely Planet book and that is a BIG thing since only the 'must do' places get featured here.

    Food
Food here is pretty good. I'd highly recommend the Chicken Crispy and/or Chicken Lollipop starters. Down that with your choice of alcohol. Here, you get

  • Good to be back 2011-06-17

I came back to Janata after a gap of more than 6 years and I was overjoyed to find that not much has changed. Even the furniture seemed the same.

Not your typical quarter joint to begin with, it's now as happening as any pub. I was here on a Thursday night with a friend and we got place only in the non-AC section and we shared our table with 2 other people, which is 'samjhe khaate mein' in a place like this. Though saying 'a place like this' is misleading because this place is unique!

Our food was tasty, the beer was chilled and the bill was hardly anything. Oh, its good to

  • Never judge a book... 2010-12-03

The first time I went here I had my doubts about eating here what with the dodgy, shady look of the place. But now it's the place I visit when I am flat broke or even otherwise.

The booze and the food are dirt cheap. It's always crowded, whatever time of the day, night or week it is but it's amazing how there is always room. The service is quick. It is courteous for such a low-priced place. The menu consists mostly of south Indian food and the Indian variety of Chinese.

The AC room is far better in terms of comfort than the place for the aam 'Janta' downstairs.

  • Too much janata 2010-11-19

I made the worst decision of my life and decided to visit Janata, the famous watering hole in bandra on a saturday night. When we saw the crowd outside, we were already prepared for the top section to be crowded. But when we entered the upper level, we realized, crowded was an understatement! It was as good as a Virar local train, people pushing, waiters pushing and everyone trying to make space for themselves. Since we were just two of us, the waiters informed us that we would have to wait, and after waiting we would have to share the table with two other people!! Wtf, we obviously ran out of... read more

  • Best of Bandra.. 2010-08-13

    Bandra without Janata? Unthinkable!
Been here a few times (Nice vibe, maybe not so family-orientated, but I don't know. I've usually gone quite late), but anyway mostly I order home...
The delivery guys are the BEST (though there's one guy on the phone inside who's not a great listener when they're busy), the food is good solid Indian/ Chinese kitchen (the 'Chinese' is more the Indian perspective of 'chinese' in terms of spice, which anyway I prefer).
    Fancy? Not so much.
Good food, delivery and value? For sure.
Best Butter Chicken and Butter Naans I know??... oh yeah, Legendar

  • To Aam Janata, for Aam Janata and by Aam Janata. 2010-06-30

If you live in Bandra or are found loitering around often, and still haven't managed to get a glimpse of this shrine for bewdas and bhookads, you're either:

    1) An extremely convincing liar.
    2) A snobby bimbo.
    3) A camel.
    4) Blind.
    5) All of the above.

Janata Restaurant & Bar is probably one of the most popular addas in Aamchi Mumbai located at Pali Naka, one of the busiest streets in Bandra.

If you're just another working man with a minimalistic bank-balance and a serious stingy behavioral issue, you would've certainly been here at least once. The name
