Kafe D'Or is located close to Fun Republic and Sports Bar. It is opposite Citi Mall and is situated on the ground floor of Oberoi Chambers.
Kafe D'Or is a cafe, restaurant, bakery and even a night club - all rolled into one neat package. Step inside, and you will feel like royalty. Plush decor, mirror lined walls, low but humongous chairs and big tables greet the uninitiated. Their private dining area was off limits possibly because the entire restaurant was empty!
What is funny though is that the entry is from the bakery section which may put off some people expecting to step into an exclusive dining experience. Having read a few reviews on Burrp, I was surprised that my experience at Kafe D'or was different, in a better way.
We were greeted by a well built hunky looking maitre'd. For a moment I thought I stepped inside a night club but was soon shown the restaurant. We were seated in a nice cosy section of restaurant though would have preferred a bit more privacy.
We decided to treat ourselves to some tasty salads followed by a Spanish main course meal. Ordered for a Chicken Salad for starters. Expected the portions to be small but were surprised with the large bowl of fresh salad. The veggies were fresh and the chicken was tender. Clearly addressed towards the health conscious folks, the salad in itself is a meal unless you are sharing it with someone else!
Next up was the Paella. Paella is a Spanish dish and is widely popular in Valencia, the place where it originated. There are essentially three types of Paella however Kafe D'Or made sure they added a fourth variety. The dish prepared was white rice cooked in Saffron along with chicken. It hardly contained any veggies which was a disappointment. That said, the Paella was a good effort and I personally liked it for it was a new dish for me especially with the saffron and rice mix.
Overall, the food was good. Again, the Paella quantity was good with big pieces of chicken. No complaints on the quantity at Kafe D'Or. The service was good and fast and the ambiance is a top notch too. However, one feels Kafe D'Or tries to be the jack of all trades and master of none! A good restaurant which could have been better. A well stocked bakery which again could have been better as well! We had ordered for Chocolate Decadence which is an excellent dark chocolate pastry however it tasted a bit funny as probably it was stocked sometime ago!
The place is expensive to say the least however that shouldn't be a deterrent to atleast try out Kafe D'Or.
