Toothpaste Kebabs anyone? 2012-02-13
Last week we thought of getting a little adventurous and going out for some authentic kebabs. Luckily, the new place I am working out of has a lot of options right from Indian to Chinese to Italian cuisines. This time around, it was time for kebabs. And a colleague (also a huge foodie like I am) recommended Kakori House. It's just a short taxi ride from work at Matunga to Mahim.
Ambiance:

A highly appraised but Non veg only joint 2011-10-31
We went there specially from Thane and the first thing we were told was " This is a small branch, hence no shorbas / other items" So visit Oshiwara instead of Mahim! Then the Veg Shammi Kabab and Veg gulauti Kabab were good and so was Wariqui paratha. Only Wariqui Paratha & Roomali Roti was available, again being a small eatery! Peshawari Paneer was a disaster having being made in Tommato sauce instead of puried tommato. Hence so sweet as if gravy for american chopsuey!!! Among the few which serves authentic taste !!! 2011-10-11
Authentic - Mouthwatering - Perfect: That’s what I will say for Kakori House. Been there for multiple occasions and had tried most of the non-vegetarian options in there menu.
I personally have a deep love for Biryanis and had tried them in almost 30 to 40 places in Mumbai (Kalyan to CST and Mira Road to Churhgate) including the famous Delhi Darbaar but I found my destination at Kakori House. When I search for Biryani, I look for authentic Dum Biryani and not the one which is most commonly served in Mumbai (Rice and Meat cooked separately and then served on top of each other).

One of the finest place to offer biryanis and kebabs. Humble place with average decor. But will definitely give stiff competition to the likes of Delhi Darbar. Must try the karoki kabab. What is it? well according to the history of kebabs, this was dish specially created for the tooth less nawabs...hahah....its made from extremely well ground meat with loads of kebab ingredients. If you are a compulsive non vegetarian who is desperate to shed weight, but just cannot get yourself around to eating less, then this place is for you.
We had ordered the famous gwalati and kakori kebabs. Yes, these were soft as advertised, but as soon as the initial novelty wore off (which takes about a bite or two) I realised that I was chewing on some spiced up fancy dough, utterly devoid of meat. This then, is the world's first meat free kebab, a diet coke on a skewer. And like diet coke, it tastes like p*sh. You can get better results for a lot less money by deep frying a Mars bar. -

An extremely small restaurant with a capacity of around 15 serves what is arguably the best choice of kebabs in all of Mumbai. Try the signature dish Kakori Kebab or the Murgh Afghani, and you will be left wondering how it is possible to have kebabs as soft as they are delicious. The kebab wrap could be an excellent snack, with the bread being superbly baked as well. However, once the starters have set the stage, the main course is a bit of a disappointment. All hype, No bite 2011-04-29
My experience at Kakori house was similar to watching a highly anticipated, heavily promoted big budget Bollywood flick. All hype no bite. In fact after eating at Kakori’s Mahim branch I’ve learnt that the restaurant business in Mumbai is a lot like Bollywood. The film is nothing like the slick promos we see on TV. In fact the audience is expected to ‘leave their brains at home.’ And the people behind the film encourage it too. Superb soft Kebabs, Delicious Biryani !! 2011-04-22
This place has been started by the famous qureshi who father has been the executive chef of ITC and developed their Peshawari restraunts.
Go here at least once every week with friends, have ordered biryani by the Kilo for parties... It has always exceeded our expectations.... Been used to eating Galouti kebabs from Tundays in Lucknow, these are the best in class

Best Mutton Biryani in Mumbai ! 2010-12-06
To say we love biryani would be an understatement ... we have travelled across India looking for the 'ultimate' experience. Its not food but an expereince for us - be it Paradise & Bawarchi in Hyderabad (tried Hyd House also ...yuck !); Arselan, Shiraz, Amenia or Zeeshan in Kolkata; Hajeeras in Chennai; Karim & Babu Khan of Delhi (anyone who mentions Deez should be shot); Royal of Lucknow; list goes on ... kilos upon kilos of this stuff has flown into our house !
