very bad - overpriced udipi restaurant and pathetic food and service! the food has absolutely no taste! no hygiene maintained - i went with my baby and there was food all over the place.. food at an udipi restaurant is a thousand times better! wont be surprised if i find it shut soon!

  • expensive for South Indian and also no WOW factor. 2011-11-02

Firstly i would say its positioned in a rather not noticeable place . If i wouldnt have read about it earlier i was sure to not even know it was there .

Food was just fine i would say ..

Had coin idli ( mini idlis ) and mysore masala dosa , it was good but nothing that would amaze .

Ambience is somewhat like a mall food court i felt , they could have made it much much better

Then there is the price , its just expensive for south indian and had no feeling of being value for money at all , neither the food , nor the ambeince.

  • Nice But Not The Best 2011-10-30

I would say that I'm a frequent customer of Komala's mainly because it's a place for quick hot south Indian food. There are no surpises as far as the idlis, sambar, dosas, vadas, pongal, uthapam and other rice items go, but the biggest surprise is the hugely disappointing coffee. This is not the filter coffee I would expect at a south Indian restaurant. I would prefer the south Indian food at Matunga's Ramashreya or Mani's to Komalas, any day or time of the week. That being said, I like the casual pace of Komalas where you're not expected to dine and dash and it's CLEAN.

The Singapore-based international chain serving South Indian fast food and quick meals, Komala’s has set foot in India with the first outlet up and running at a Mumbai mall. For all those wondering why a super quick chain would opt for a mall where people have much time on hand, rather than a location that’s in the heart of a CBD, here’s why. While the super quick delivery works for office-goers hoping to grab a quick bite or takeaway, there’s little chance of them paying a steep Rs.40 for Plain Idlis, Rs. 60 For Wada Sambhar and an atrocious Rs.80 for Onion and Tomato Utthapams day in and day... read more
