  • expensive for South Indian and also no WOW factor. 2011-11-02

Firstly i would say its positioned in a rather not noticeable place . If i wouldnt have read about it earlier i was sure to not even know it was there .

Food was just fine i would say ..

Had coin idli ( mini idlis ) and mysore masala dosa , it was good but nothing that would amaze .

Ambience is somewhat like a mall food court i felt , they could have made it much much better

Then there is the price , its just expensive for south indian and had no feeling of being value for money at all , neither the food , nor the ambeince.

  • Nice But Not The Best 2011-10-30

I would say that I'm a frequent customer of Komala's mainly because it's a place for quick hot south Indian food. There are no surpises as far as the idlis, sambar, dosas, vadas, pongal, uthapam and other rice items go, but the biggest surprise is the hugely disappointing coffee. This is not the filter coffee I would expect at a south Indian restaurant. I would prefer the south Indian food at Matunga's Ramashreya or Mani's to Komalas, any day or time of the week. That being said, I like the casual pace of Komalas where you're not expected to dine and dash and it's CLEAN.

  • feels like home cooked!!! 2011-08-29

This concept is a International concept of Fast food Dinning no hassles and no strings attached, also the food service is prompt,
I had the South Indian meal Thali for INR 150/-
was served with Rassam, sambhar, curry,, 3 dry Gravy, Yoghurt and a Gulab Jamun, 3 types of diffrent chutney it tastes like its been home cooked but only thing was the similarity in the taste of the dishes may be all are cooked in Yoghurt, but all in allits a package meal which is quick to serve and eat as well
also is worth the moneys worth.
    FOOD: 3/5
SERVICE: 4/5 Although a self service joint

  • Favourite restaurant! 2011-08-17

I used to be a Sunday-Matunga guy, but after I tried Komala's in Phoenix, I stopped going to Matunga!

It is by far the best south Indian food I have had in Mumbai, and it is complete value for money. I don't know why some people are finding it pricey - the per person bill comes much higher in Matunga or any other Sagars around town! the Rasam Vadai and the Komala's Special Meal should not be missed!

The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. The owner, Mr. Krishna, is usually present, and always smiling. I just wish they'd open a branch somewhere closer to South

  • Average food with High Cost 2011-07-09

Ambiance is good. Hygine is also good. But Food is OK & Average. Worst is portion in Komala's Thali. Rasam, Sambhar, ,Sweet dish, raita & curd all were in small katori which are used in flights for Pickles. Rs.150/- for testing thier food? Only + point is Pure Veg South Indian Restaurant in Ponix mill

  • Gr8 food...but slipping!! 2011-06-02

Over the past year ive been a frequent visitor to Komalas @ Phoenix. The food quality was awesome to start with and then itjust got better. Ok, so a bit pricey, but if you have a half hour lunh break and your order is served piping hot n fresh in 5 minutes...what more d'u need??

But before i go overboard, the quality of the food (specially the sambahr) seems to be slipping. being a southie myself, i know how an authentic sambhar should taste..!! This is a fabulous place. Hope it doesn't go the way of most commercialised, mass producing joints :)

  • Much needed @Phoenix, needs to fix its service! 2011-05-31

Phoenix finally has a decent South Indian food joint. If I may say this place is a handful of places in Mumbai who serve real South-indian food. Others are Sankalp(Kandivali) and Madras Cafe(Matunga).

I have heard people talking about high prices here, yes its high for a South-Indian place...but since I am a regular at Sankalp, this is almost equal to that.

    What we ordered -

    2 Value Meals(Masala Dosa, Soft-drink, idli-vada)
    1 Komalas Thali
    1 Plain Dosa
    1 Filter Coffee
    1 Cold Coffee
    1 Dahi Vada
    1 Aquafina

    Total tab - 720

    Firstly

  • Excellent food - Best Madrasi Food in Mumbai 2011-04-29

Visited Komalas several times. Excellent food extremely hygienic. Some of the Matunga joints are very unhygienic. Time for the Tambrams to realise that they not going to get a dosa of Rs. 15. Need to pay for good food. A place where all mumbaites must visit off course not the kanjoos one's especially the kanjoos tambrams.

  • Review of Komalas or a review of south Indian food 2011-03-13

I recently made a post on Facebook about the degradation of South Indian food options in Mumbai and at that time Komalas was on my "to visit" list. After I ate there I wrote a FB status update that said something like "If there is South Indian food in Mumbai its this its this" (I remember I used some Hindi words). I am surprised to read the plethora of negative feedback about Komalas here on Burrp.com. Perhaps tastes have changed amongst people.....the Gujarati / Marwari influence has taken roots perhaps. Good for India shining - bad for good ole South Indian (Tambram) tastes.
