Its been a year since I last went to Mainland China at Linking Road and I must sadly say that nothing has changed since 2011. Its unfortunate that the owners/promoters of Mainland China havent closed down this chain at Linking Road or completely replaced the chefs. There is a huge and I mean massive difference between the Mainland China at Lokhandwala/andheri and the Linking Road one. The quality and promptness of service is very good and in fact the managers take good care of your needs but at the end of the day, you dont go to a theatre to enjoy the AC and cushioned seats. Sadly the food is not upto mark as would be in other Mainland China restaurants. There is an excessive corn flour coating in every item. The starters constitute half of the main course and dont get me started on the desserts. The desserts are simply terrible. The tarts are hard and seem stale and rest of the cream infested desserts can sadly be found in any road side tea stall in terms of quality. In fact the food and serving area looks straight out of a outdoor wedding setup.
Basically they really need to improve the quality of their food as anyone who has never been to a mainland china and makes this branch their first visit is going to definitely think that critics who love mainland china just have terrible taste in chinese food. Mainland China is highly rated for their chinese food and in my opinion as a big fan and frequent customer, I seriously think its about time that the Mainland China owners make things right as its seriously giving them a bad name especially given the fact that the branch is located in quite the central area for many diners/customers. IN my opinion, the one at Andheri/lokhandwala is fantastic and one should visit there to enjoy the actual Mainland china experience as started in calcutta.
