We dropped by to enjoy our Sunday meal and celebrate a friend’s birthday. We couldn’t have been more pleased and I mean it! Let me walk you through our experience…
We decided to call for some juices – 2 fresh coconut kernel juices (70/- each), 1 fresh lime soda (about 60/-) and an orange juice (65/-). They were served in slender tall glasses holding good portions of juices, may be over priced, but we loved it. (Total – 265/-)
Our appetites were building and we chose to start off our grub calling for soups. The Tom Kha (Thai soup with coconut milk flavored with ginger and lemon grass) grabbed our attention instantaneously as we’ve never tried a coconut based soup. It was orange in color, the texture was between thick and thin, bamboo shoots were added for flavor, chicken cubes were generously served, the aromas filled the ambience and over powered the incense to the corners of the room. It was by far, the most ever captivating experience we’ve had over a soup. We didn’t even make conversation with each other until we finished a little more than half from our bowls. I don’t mean to dramatize the feeling, but it was our best soup we’ve ever tried out. I would insist on you trying the same; you won’t regret it. (145/- soup. We had a 2/4; totaling the soup cost to 290/-)
Ok, so now that we’re done with the soup escapade; let’s get to the starters. Satay Pla was the fish served with sticks though it, smothered with Schezwan sauce and finely chopped lentils and spring onions. It hits your mouth with a bang of rich red hot spicy flavor and if you prefer spicy food, you’ll love it just like we did! The plate comprised of 9 tall pieces; deliciously good! It was about 290/-
The Nam Prik Praw Kai was the 2nd starter we ordered. It was a chicken dish that had an elaborated distinguished description to it on the menu, but in our opinion, it resembled the ever famous beer buddy – Crispy Fried Chicken. None the less, the quantity was excellent and we stuffed our faces with it! If I’ve not mistaken, it costs about 230/-
Alright, so each of us consumed an entire juice, a good portion of soup, 2 starters yet we battled our minds and stooped into the Thai Ban Special Sea Food Platter. There’s 2 options mentioned in the menu, ‘serves 2’ was for 495/- and ‘serves 4’ for 995/- We decided we stick with the ‘serves 2’ rather than wasting the portion and we ordered a Khao Phad Kapprao (Spicy Thai Chicken Fried Rice with Basil and a Chicken gravy served along) that costs 150/-. The Sea Platter caused our jaws to drop! The large plate comprised of Squids, Crabs, Salmon and Prawns all richly cooked and served in Oyster Sauce. We even checked with the waiter if he heard us right (‘serves 2 NOT 4’) as it was an incredibly enormous serving. We relished the meats whole heartedly, the squid tentacles were decoratively rolled in the platter, the crabs were broken a bit so we didn’t have to struggle much, the salmon chunks were the size of my palm and the prawns were a medium to a big size. We ate as much as we could but yet wasted some of it. We managed to consume a few morsels of rice with gravy and had no alternative but to parcel up the rest. The rice was very detailed, the spices and vegetables were all evenly cut and it had a beautiful texture. The gravy was strikingly pungent (as per our request) and left us in a sweat. No complains though, we savored every bite.
As you can guess, our organs refused to co-ordinate any further with our wants and that brought our lunch to an end. Although we wanted a desert, we just had no room for even a sip of water. Our lunch bill entailing all of the exceptional dishes and delightful experience I’ve described to you above, rounded up to 1748/- inclusive of taxes. Without* taxes, it was about 1570/-
Note: The menu attached on Burrp is not updated, there are many more dishes added and the pricing as you can guess, has obviously risen.
Before I sign off, would advice each one reading my review to drop in to Munchkins Thai Ban especially for the soup and the Platter. They were absolutely mind blowing. Management, you got yourselves 4 religious patrons!
Until next time,
Burrp!
