Neel

Neel at Tote on the Turf, the first Indian grill-cuisine restaurant from deGustibus Hospitality, opened its doors on July 30, 2011. Just as with all of the company’s other restaurants, Neel too reinforces Director de Cuisine Rahul Akerkar’s belief in presenting a tasteful blend of authentic flavours, textures and colours to create a sensational gustatory experience. At Neel, it’s all about paying homage to the rich and evolved cuisine of old Muslim Nawabi families from Lucknow, Hyderabad, and Kashmir. The cuisine takes a modern approach to classic flavour combinations, creating a sophisticated menu of over 50 kebabs (30 non-vegetarian and 20 vegetarian) made up of delectable items such as Sofiyani Paneer Tikka (cottage cheese prepared with saunf or fennel), Jaituni Kumbh Tikka (stuffed grilled mushrooms served with a green olive chutney that has a tapenade-like consistency), Adrak Ke Panje (New Zealand lamb chops in a spicy ginger marinade) and Raan-E-Mukhtar (tandoor-roasted leg of baby lamb).
Other than the extensive choice of kebabs, the menu at Neel has a diverse vegetarian section with dishes such as Chilgoze Ka Shorba (a thick soup made of pine nuts), Kashmiri Seb Ki Sabzi (a curry made of Kashmiri apples), Jhinga Dum Anari (prawns in almond and pomegranate curry), and Gucchi Ki Biryani (rice cooked with morel mushrooms). Traditional slow-cooked non-vegetarian preparations like Haleem, Nalli Nihari and Taar Korma promise to be potential favourites. For a sweet ending to the meal try the uniquely delectable Parde Me Khubani (baked apricot halwa).

Master Chef Mukhtar Qureshi from Lucknow, who has been the Indian cuisine chef for Moveable Feast, deGustibus’ catering division, since 2008, is now heading the kitchen at Neel. Chef Qureshi is being assisted by a team of chefs from Lucknow, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

  • Absolutely Delicious Mar 31, 2013

Located inside the Maha Laxmi race course, the revamping of the restaurant has been a refreshing change.

The interiors are lavish and spacious and live upto the price tag.

The staff is very courteous and helpful.

The Shatwar Pista Shorba was served hot and the taste was different but very full filling.

Badami Paneer Tikka was grilled to perfection and the paneer was very soft as well, which ensured the flavour stayed in. The Sarsonwali Tandoori Sakarkand also was good.

The Kathal ki Dum Biryani was served in a bowl which was packed air tight with the

  • Great food, Lovely spacious place Feb 15, 2013

Decided to go to Neel Tote on the Turf yesterday with my wife and daughters. Called up to confirm a reservation but was told that the earliest seating would be 10 pm as the place is full. They asked me to check again which i did but got the same reply. Then asked my wife to do it and guess what she was immediately confirmed for a 9 pm reservation.
Guys you need to organize your reservation system else u will loose a lot of customers.
Reached there at 9 15 and the place was like 50% occupied. I just don't get it with these fine dine restaurants on why do they say full when the place is

  • Unique preparations, good service! Nov 26, 2012

    From burrp! Mobile App
One of the most unique Indian food menus and preparations to match. The outdoor seating during winters makes the perfect ambience to match whats on offer - great kababs and soups. The main course needs some work. The morels are a must-try. The food needs to be piping hot. Despite my repeated reminders to the staff, they continued to serve it lukewarm and blame it on the wintry weather. Overall, highly recommended!

  • RATS ALIVE! Sad and shocking! Apr 08, 2012

Fab dining experience, until I saw a huge rat eating off the station where the waiters who were chatting amongst themselves, had left the food they had cleared off the tables. It was walking over the clean silverware (serving spoons in the main) and appeared twice to top up. Waiters were none too concerned when I pointed it out, in fact they found my concern funny. I called the manager, one Mr. Abhiraj, today as I was disturbed by the nonchalant attitude taken by the staff. Did not get the feeling that it would be safe to go back, or that it would be dealt with it. Felt rather sad as it would... read more
