  • RATS ALIVE! Sad and shocking! 2012-04-08

Fab dining experience, until I saw a huge rat eating off the station where the waiters who were chatting amongst themselves, had left the food they had cleared off the tables. It was walking over the clean silverware (serving spoons in the main) and appeared twice to top up. Waiters were none too concerned when I pointed it out, in fact they found my concern funny. I called the manager, one Mr. Abhiraj, today as I was disturbed by the nonchalant attitude taken by the staff. Did not get the feeling that it would be safe to go back, or that it would be dealt with it. Felt rather sad as it would... read more

  • good experience but expensive 2011-12-08

I had gone here, with a group of 17people. ambiance was amazing!! great interiors, complementing lighting, an absolute delight to sit and relax.
the lotus stem kabab was not good, the okra in yogurt on the other hand was awesome!!
worth a visit any day but 18k bill is slightly deterring.

  • surreal, delicious & courteous... 2011-11-07

i visited neel in Mahalakshmi race course (earstwhile Tote's)...and believe you me...it was an amazing experience...the only dampner was tht it was a dry day...but it was a blessing indisgiuse, as we got to taste some great food....

the location and the ambience was superlative...

the staff was extremely courteous and served us with a constant smile on their face...even if they were instructed to do so as their job....it seemed genuine...therefore, enhancing the experience further...

but the super star was the food.....the kakori kebab, mixed rotis (wakri, malai paratha,

  • Innovative Indian 2011-09-22

This place has somehow never impressed me in terms of food - neither in it's earlier avatar as Tote nor now with Neel. But I like the fact that they have tried to experiment and try something different in a cuisine that not many people would take kindly to.

Given it's Indian food it's usually families that frequent the place making it a bit noisy. Definitely not where you'd want to take your date.

Food: Ordered the Matar Malai Tikki which is a version of Hara Bhara Kebab, a kebab with water chesnuts and lotus stem I think which most people left untouched but was served with

  • Location drives the show! 2011-08-27

Yes, plenty of Racecourse members and Bombayites would love going to Mahalakshmi. Turning heart of the best Pubs, Clubs, Eatery places.

Neel is good with pretty laid back classically classy ambiance. At Dinner the place is well lit up.

Service is courteous but certainly a little intrusive. Many times giving too many options for serving just doesn't work.

Food, Veggie was really good, innovative preparations that taste well. Non-Veggie was a little disappointment with either bland or lightly spiced versions. The quality of Chicken not very tender. Meat, strictly okay.... read more

  • Neel the place to be 2011-08-13

If you want to dine on food from the times of yore cooked just the way it was Neel is the place to be, the food is suprisingly light and doesnt leave one feeling lethargic at the end of the meal. The Kebabs melt in your mouth, the black daal is wonderful, and the biryani is to die for unlike its hyderabadi cousin (which is just masala) this actually has a wonderful depth of flavour,The only negative thing is the noise factor its too bloody noisy !!! Please please do something about it if you can doesnt matter we will keep coming back any how :)

  • Mind blowing 2011-08-05

What an experience we had at Neel...mind blowing is the first thing that comes to mind!
Neel is exactly where tote restaurant was but in a different avatar and what an amazing avatar it is.
The food is exemplary and outstanding, several notches higher than any other indian restaurant in mumbai. I quite enjoy copper chimney, punjab grill but neel is in a different league. High quality ingredients, imaginative cooking and very efficient and friendly service (quite unlike the arrogant ways of its previous avatar). The managers and waiters helped us remarkably well with the ordering and

  • Super Food in the new NEEL and excellent service 2011-07-31

Went on the opening night of Neel.

The decor is almost the same as the earlier Tote with some minor changes.

The food is excellent. It is Mughlai food but with much lesser oil and gravy so it does not make you feel too heavy later.

What we ate - ( all veg)

Soup - Pine nut shorba - very nice , though a tad oversalty which they gladly replaced.

Starters - Sofiyana Paneer which is aniseed flavored paneer tikka kind - decent
Tandoori Gobi - very nice and subtly flavored with mustard.

Main course we had a spinach and lotus root

  • TOTTEring 2011-02-18

Ambience: Entirely done up in white with plastic white trees (I think) and muted tones its a great place for a date or where the focus is on the conversation.

Food: The bread basket had some nice garlic bread but was only served with butter. I tried the Pizza Margherita and Pasta in Pesto. Both were good but nothing exceptional. I'd requested for olives and sun-dried tomatoes in the pasta. Is it just me or is having entire olives with the seed in your pasta weird. Its the first place I've seen this.

Drinks: Had the Ruby which is a nicely mixed yum cocktail with cranberry juice

  • Overpriced 2011-02-03

We went for dinner to Tote on turf on 26th Jan. The place looks cool and ambience is good. We shared one starter, chilled prawns which was unusual and good. We had two mains an Olive rubbed chicken which was OKayish and the steamed ravas with coriander which was very mediocre. The bill without alcohol was Rs 3300 for one starter, two mains, and two good coffees. Overpriced.
