  • Place to be seen... no value for money 2011-01-03

Gourmet stay away from this place. If you want to have a nice outdoor restaurant to enjoy a good cocktail & some starters and to see happy few people & be seen, Olive at the Race Course is the place to be. if you focus on food & only food. The value for money is not there. While their plate presentation is interesting (especially compared to Indigo that really struggles on this point), the choice is great, the flavours are some kind of indianized... whioch spoils the experience. I got very spicy pasta. Having said that, the lamb was good but not exceptional.

  • Food's okay... price is steep! 2010-07-30

I had the opportunity to try this restaurant a week back. We ordered some bread, pizza and pasta. I kind off had my expectations built high I guess for I ended up disppointed with the flavour of the food we ordered. My friend and I both saw the need to add some garnishing to make the food taste better.

Overall, the food's strictly okay and its highly priced from that perspective.

I am going to give in another shot shortly... lets see.

  • Careful! Cheats! 2009-12-09

Too bad 0 stars cant be given....

On a recent Sunday brunch a friend of mine came accross a shameful scam Olives is pulling.

The Tax for Alcohlic beverages, which is elsewhere listed separately, is being levied on the FULL amount (food + drinks) instead of separating the 2.

    Sad but true!

Plus, food leaves much to desire. Drowning everything in Olive Oil with bland/no taste taste at all doesnt make it mediterranean!

And if I order a coffee/espresso in such a supposed-to-be-posh place, I do not expect to be served Nescafe.

    Definitely

  • Go tell it on the mountains 2009-10-05

A new place that was bordering on awful when it opened, no bollywood to support it in town sadly. Then something happened a month ago, the place has transformed into a swan, as beautiful as it was the food, service and wallet quotient are now at par with the best in Mumbai.
I have already been a few times with many different people, and they all seem to be in agreement that whatever has happened to this restaurant, gives us all a lot more reasons to cheer about. Do the same magic with the Bandra branch AD Singh.

  • Thank you for burrp-ing 2009-10-05

For the first time, and on a whim I followed Burrp's advice and went this place, ignoring the old reviews. Seemed like a new avatar, and definitely warranted a visit.
I am a die hard foodie, and would not squirm at the site of strange things on my plate, so long as it is executed perfectly. I seldom eat with friends, since they often tend to lean towards Indianized versions of anything.
Taking the bait I wnet to Olive, so not known for it's food and sat in a quiet corner next to a Palm tree.
The lighting was more muted than before and gave itself an air of dignity previously unsee

  • Paradigm Shift I say 2009-10-05

I had visited this much touted chain soon after it opened its doors to us townies a year ago and must say it was sorely sorely disappointing. A friend called the other day to announce that there had been a change of guard at the restaurant, and some new Bangalore chef had moved here.
I went grudgingly, with no idea what a brilliant surprise lay in store. The service was crisp, efficient and for a change informed. The Crab Cake that I started with rivaled th best I've tasted in Chicago , and the John Dory done simply was true divinity, succulent, subtle and 'wow' all in the ame breath. A speci

  • The Horse and the Olive 2009-09-27

Next time I'll take the horse and pass on the Olive

I'm about 12 months late in checking this "new" eatery out, and so I was glad when me and a friend finally found an excuse to visit.

The restaurant was relatively easy to find and the covered, outside sitting area would be nice if you had your own punkah walla. Unlike the Khar version, there were no fans outside...

Inside was better, and decidedly cooler, even when it was totally full to the brim with revelers. The decor was more polished and definite than the Khar version, which I think is looking a bit tired

  • Feels good, tastes less good 2009-09-06

Great ambience. However, for someone like me who is strictly vegetarian and a teetotaller the entire menu would come twice over in an SMS (pizza and skewers). We had both of these and it tasted fresh, subtle and well done. The portions are miserly (an indirect way of saying that the right hand column of the menu card is heavy). I absolutely loved the decor and the lilt of the place. There is no reason for me to go back unless there are more things on the menu that I can try out. I have also been to the original at Bandra a few times, and would certainly prefer Mahalaxmi to that for its feeling... read more

  • so so bandra is better ! 2009-08-19

I went to olives mahalaxmi even though friends of mine recomended me not to. and now i understand why. the whole place was a little to al fresco for me. ( that and apart from the fact that you can smel horse sh*t ) lol the menu is similar to the one in bandra and is extremely expenisive way to over priced for what it is. but still ok for a once visit. I dont think it will last long !!! mumbaikars are not stupd they want value for money !
