RODAS means the junction of heaven and earth in Sanskrit, they believe in providing their best service to its customers and at the same time being environment friendly. There are different segments under the banner Rodas, namely Far East of oriental cuisine, Aura which is a resto-bar and Parabola. Parabola gets its name form the shape in which the design of the resto is. Since Rodas is an Ecotel hotel, the focus point of the parabolic shape facing the northeast, reduces the direct sunlight thereby reducing electricity consumption by way of lesser air conditioning and lighting. A false wall and double glazed windows further help in considerably reducing the energy requirement.
Parabola is 24-hour South East Asia & Continental cuisine restaurant. Signature dishes are available only at Parabola. They have breakfast, lunch and midnight buffets and la carte as well. I chose to dine at the parabola buffet fantasizing to dive my taste buds into the delectable looking food just at the sheer presentation of the spread. The buffet costs Rs.550 per person excluding taxes. The spread is laid across the floor, yet not much to eat. Allow me to take you across the buffet!
Beginning with starters, they have Fish seek kabab which is moderate in taste, dahi kabab is below average and there’s a live counter where the cook prepares stir fried vegetables which has a nice salty taste and well sautéed onions, 3 varieties of leafy veggies, sprouts and capsicum but the quantity is only a fistful for every serve and 2 soups. They have a good variety to offer in salads; be it vegetables, fruits and non-veg with mayonnaise. Two drinks at the buffet are sweet Vanilla juice which is just like milk and is average in taste and Khus syrup which I’ll bluntly say is unpalatable.
Moving on to the main course, they have around 12 varieties of bread, but none of them trigger my taste buds to eat. There are 3 non-veg gravies – 2 chicken and lamb. One of the chicken gravies is a red thick gravy made in Indian style which is good enough and the other one is dry sliced chicken pieces which was fairly decent in taste. The lamp is a thick grayish gravy which was fine. Well, unfortunately the journey for non-vegetarians ends here. A larger portion of the buffet gives vegetarians a better choice where they have 6 veg items including Dal, out of which 3 dishes are made exclusively for Jains. But wait a minute, don’t puff your hopes on the vegetarian spread; all of them are absolutely disgusting, Point blank! As a matter of fact, the 3 non-veg items are at least edible unlike the veg items. They have roti & tandoori in the house and under rice they serve plain rice and pulao rice but it is as simple as jeera rice. If I have to give you a candid feedback, the best item to eat is plain rice and dal(I mean it).
Finally under desserts, they had pastries and ice creams; unfortunately the spread even here is not impressive. Truly, do not judge the book by its cover. Indeed, looks are deceptive. Overall, Parabola is below average.
My rating for Parabola is :
Ambience 8/10
Value for money 6/10
Service 5/10
Taste 3/10
