One of the best "Hole in the Wall" restaurants that I have been to in Mumbai till date ..
The day was friday and as usual me and my office colleague were craving for a good gomantak lunch. We were bored of the usual Gajalee and Mahesh Lunch Home and Pangat , so decided to call up a few frnds who stay around Goregaon (thats where office is) and check if there are any similar places around here. We got the same name from 2 places - SATKAR. Our well wishers did warn us of the low level ambience and long queues for tables, but when it comes to food – who cares !!
It took us about 10 mins to find the place in the chawl sprawling oppst the east side of Goregaon station. The smell of the dishes carried around by the running waiters was mesmerizing. After a small wait, we were ushered into the AC section. It was a table meant for 4, with 6 covers and 3 stranger couples (yes there is table sharing if you are on a big table and small group). The sitting position was extremely awkward as one couldn’t even nudge their elbows around. We ordered a mutton thali and fish thali, with extra sol kadi, extra mutton sukka, mutton kaleja, bombil fry and paplet fry on the side.
The food came in about 12-15 mins, the quantities in the thali looked smaller thn most of the other places I have been to in Mumbai. But the taste was – Masha Allah !! The mutton was cooked just right, but had too many bones in the anyways smaller plate (but the price is so low that you can order 2-3 dishes per person). The bombil fry had 2 pieces and was sufficient for 2 ppl as a side dish. The Paplet fry had one piece whiche we split between the both of us. The Kaleji was the best of all other dishes, cooked just above perfection. Both the fish and mutton was very fresh and not deep frozen for a long time like most of the other Mumbai places.
The thali has an option of chapattis , bhakris and vade (kombdi – vade). Quantity of chapatti and rice is perfect, the meat is less but you can always order on the side and thus have a bigger variety of dishes in front of you.
Our total damage was just 600 bucks including 25 as tip (INR 300 per person).
Cant wait to try their other dishes … !!
