Having lived in the south for a few years, I'd started missing the cuisine I'd taken for granted there. South of The vindhyas is a beautiful restaurant with wooden columns, terracotta tiles on the ceiling and south Indian sarees draping the walls. They have an A la carte menu and a sit-down buffet to choose from, we chose the A la carte as the sit-down buffet seemed to be more of a Karnataka Style thali and hence food which would be simpler (to digest). The service was very good, we were treated to a ritual of washing our hands in a silver basin and our order was taken promptly. I only wished our waiter would have more knowledge about the dishes on the menu. We started with Pallakatti Veruval and Pessarattu which were served as entrees and tasted pretty good. Loved the thick gravy of the former, but my mom makes the best Pessarattu in the world. After which we had Appams, Idiyaapams, stew and ulli theeyal. Appams are always as good as the stew they are served with and these definitely exceeded the mark. Although, I have tasted better ulli theeyal, but this was pretty good too.
I have to wonder why the restaurant was so empty! Come on Orchid, Promote the place!!
