- Indifferent service
- Below average sandwiches
- Average dessert
We went to Theobrama for sandwiches and eggs. We knew they were primarily a dessert place, but a Time Out review had recently mentioned their sandwiches, so we figured, why not try it for food. When we got there, we were pleasantly surprised to find, on the menu, that they did not just breakfast, but "all day breakfast." And the menu quoted someone, presumably the founder, saying, "Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day." So, coming to Theobrama for breakfast seemed like a good choice.
Unfortunately, it wasn't. My friend wanted scrambled eggs with vegetables. She tried twice - unsuccessfully it turned out - to order them. The first waiter we talked to simply said they couldn't do that; and without wasting any more time talking with us, his customers, he began to walk away. We had to ask three times for the manager before we even got to speak to him. (Which was understandable - if the service from the waiter was any indication, the manager was surely too busy cleaning up the mess made by the waiters to actually have time to talk to the customers.) The manager, when we finally spoke to him, seemed to understand our request – and he said he could accommodate it.
But when the food came, it wasn’t what we’d asked for. Long story short, my friend, ultimately, couldn’t get her order of scrambled eggs with veggies. At a place which claims to serve all-day breakfast, and whose founder likes breakfast more than any other meal in the day, that seems strange.
I ordered a burger. The bun was too hard – too toasted. This at a bakery – surely one would expect that they would get their bread right, if nothing else.
We ended with dessert, which was fine, but nothing special – certainly not worth braving the Linking Road crowds on a Sunday.
