Not impressed
Visited the restaurant once with my father. Upon entering and noticing patrons seated and having their orders taken, we were accosted by two or three waiters and were told that the restaurant was closed.
We were not impressed. Waving a platinum cc around may have solicited better treatment, but we believe that good service is mandatory regardless of what you spend there. We never visited it again.

What was I thinking??
There is a old proverb which says " Make a mistake once and you are a fool. Make the mistake again..and thou shall kick your sorry behind".
Okay, I made that line up but it is so apt for my situation.
I hated this place before when I had visited it. But I guess I was in a self hating mood on a lazy Sunday evening. So out of sheer apathy and the intense need to punish myself, I headed to China Gate at Atria mall.
What can I say because I have no one to blame but me.
The soups were spilled on the side bowl, the vegetables were raw in the pan fried noodles, the margarita had no flavor, the chopsticks they served to eat the food with looked like they were made out of cheap bucket plastic right at the back of the restaurant, the waiters kept giving me creepy smiles...And above that, the background music was so loud that we literally had to shout to talk to each other!!!
Classy ambiance I must say!
By the end of it, I was ready to jump off the third floor of the mall in turn hoping for a quick death which should had been less painful.
The bill for two came upto 1100 bucks which made my pain turn into sheer misery and self loathing. By the way..we didn't order for desserts! ( Just imagine the bill then!)
Yes. I am ready to kick myself now.

High BP Chef
Went to the place at Atria mall on the 26th march 08. We were totally dissapointed. Especially after being to their Bandra spot 6 months back where I was totally satisfied. So I took my friends at their Worli place to celebrate but alas the prawns the chicken the potatoes the panfried noodles the chicken and veg pot rice all (believe me) tasted the same I mean was it the trainee cook who was experimenting or was it a chef who has High Blood Pressure and who has been asked by his doctor to avoid salt, cooking? Man we are not high BP people. At least taste the food which you serve man. I believe they must be paying approx 6 lacs as the rent to the mall, as all the malls command a highly inflated and obnoxious price for renting their places. But if the management tries to cut prices then I think they have to rethink on the taste and quality part. Take it as an advice and not a complain. please change as fast as possible or be ready for a shut down soon, like the next door shop Origami is up for sale, just two shops away in the food court.

Yummy food
I had to go meet someone at the Atria Mall this afternoon for a lunch meeting. China Gate is located on the 3rd floor of the mall, along with some other food court stalls.
We decided to give China Gate a shot. Deap has eaten here before and recommended it.
I ordered the Veg Coriander Pot Noodle Soup. It was tasty and flavourful. Highly recommended. While I don't quite remember the names of the other dishes, the portions were generous and the food well made. For vegetarian folks, they have some good options too.

still ok
Was there for lunch yesterday.
we ordered the tom yum soup (below average) wanton soup (not bad) sweet corn (ewww) the appetizers were kung pao paneer (good) spring rolls (eww) and onion pancakes (good)
the entree was veggies in chilli garlic sauce (not too bad) the pan fried noodles (average) the burn chilli fried rice (good)
drinks : corona x 1, diet pepsi x 2
overall the meal was all right. nothing great. china gate will never become a fav of mine because though its competent its just not an 'experience'
The ambiance is upscale nice but the service is very weird. Its not bad per se as in they are reasonably quick but if you tell them something, either they don't hear you at all or they make like they don't hear you.
