Rocking!!!

I dont do suburbs but since our close friends live in Bandra we were cajoled into this. good thing too.

Del Italia sits prominently opposite Juhu beach, its made to look like a typical Mediterranean space, plants, windows, white washed walls. Though they way they have gone about it looks more like a poor mans Olive.

The appetizers were just fantastic we got the bruschetta which was very good, then we had the peppers stuffed with mozzarella which was just divine (was so good i had another one WITH my entree)

The Pizza was not bad, the side of potato and rosemary was crisp but a little bland.

The artichoke & goat cheese risotto was good but not as good as the sun dried tomato risotto. The spinach and feta cheese ravioli was not as good as i expected but still good.

The service was fairly friendly but the dishes took a little time. Also, the portions are very European sized so each one should order their own.

Damage : 3000 for 4 without drinks.

Beware

The review is not meant to tell you how good or how bad the food is as we didn't manage to taste it. We staged a walk out miffed by the pathetic attatude of the manager there. The restaurant has two levels, ground plus one and when I booked a table I had no idea we would be seated right next to their bar, where one has to listen to order exchanging conversations of the waiters and bar tenders and in turn they get to listen to ours! So we demanded another appropriate seating, which we were denied (apparently you have to specify which table you want while booking otherwise they'll herd you off to the worst available). Anyway, we being the people who don't like our food unless the surroundings are comfortable staged a walkout which was hardly noticed - not a very effective way to run a fine dining restaurant. If we wanted traffic around our table, we'd go to Bade Miyan or the Khau Galli! So guys, do keep this in mind while venturing out to Del Italia ...

Review 2 - Beware of Over priced Items on the menu

(2nd Visit at this place - 21st Sat June 2008)

Ordered
- John Dowry Fish
this was amazing FISH on a plate with butter / garlic glazing sauce - Totally Yummy for Fish lovers - I dont know which FISH was served but amazingly it did not smell at all. - Was server with Mash potato's
- Duck / Chicken Lasagne - ordered again - this time it was even yummier, since the pasta was softer

Review about pricing:
- Don't be stupid to order 250Rs soup, (I agree some of the items on menu are GROSSLY Priced)
- Keep your eyes and brains open when you order
- Keep away from grossly priced - Starters, or soups, if you feel so
- The main course is decently priced.
- I agree that's it the Management decision to price the menu correctly ofcourse.. the soups are 250 and the main courses are 210 and 310.. :) that's STUPID I know.

- So overall I know something's are stupidly priced, and
- I also have the info that the restaurants does think of itself competing with 5 Star hotels near by, I totally agree that's STUPID of them, a restaurant is a restaurant and a 5 Star restaurant is always special, and can price crazy, cause there are other Crazy idiots who have money to throw.
- I have also Eaten in Mezo Mezo, and I do know that it will serve u food which you wont be able to find on your plate (its such tiny meals), with a huge price tag. :))
- Then these CELEBs or Money falunting dummies go home at 1 in the night order their 24hrs servants for some real food, or Even some of these will also go to Airport or some bhurji pav street vendors to fill their hungry tummys :))

Don Giovanni any time please

So hubby and I decided to be a bit daring and try something other than Don Giovanni for Italian in spite of being Don fanatics. The thing is after eating at Mr Giovanni's, it's very difficult to get used to any other Italian cuisine. We like the real thing you see and can't bear the poor Indianized versions. However, we heard about Del Italia opening in Juhu and so Friday night decided to spend it over a nice Italian meal with a friend.
Unfortunately, it couldn't live up to Don's standards. The ambience is very nice, I'll give it that. A prime corner location with what could have been a great view had we not been looking right into the kalakhatta and pani-puri wallahs of Juhu beach. We were sitting outside, and I liked the rustic decor of the outdoor seating. The fans served the purpose but I can't blame Bombay's humidity and lack of rain on the restaurant. I ordered a mushroom and porcini soup and hubby and friend decided to share a salmon bruchetta starter. My soup was a good size and decent tasting although they didn't give a lot of porcini in it and the porcini didn't taste right. Hubby and friend were shocked at the starter...it was two measly pieces. Grossly overpriced at that too.
For main course, hubby ordered parma ham pizza which he loved. I ordered a smoked brinjal lasagne which tasted like baingan bharta with cheese. There was really nothing authentic about it. Friend ordered a grilled chicken which looked and, according to him, tasted like any grill chicken you would get at any passably continental place for much less.
So why am I giving only two stars?
Pros: Ambience, taste of parma ham
Cons: Measly portions and absolutely no value for money. I'd rather pay slightly more at Don's and get better portions and better taste.
I don't think this is authentic Italian...my baingan bharta type lasagne is an ode to that.
We ordered no drinks and 2 starters and 3 main courses cost us 1800 bucks. Not cheap.
And to top it all, the food didn't sit right with us and we had to take some digene to help. Definitely a no no. Not going back there again.

1st Well priced - Good Italian restaurant :)

Hi

(Visited - 15th June 2008 - 11:30 pm)

GREAT NEWS!!

This is really the 1st Italian restaurant with the most affordable pricing.. that too in the Good locality, close to some mumbai's best residential areas (juhu,lokhandwala,versova)..! :)

Why I am head - over heels for this place :
- Great ambience
- Better lighting, I mean it, I HATE restaurants which serve beautifully presented food, - but because of the BAD lighting, I cannot see the colors or the presentation of the food
- Great AC/ some restaurants are sick with BAD air conditioning levels.. (including China House, J.W Marriott Coffee Shop)
- Great Service - with a smile (well polished servers, they could speak better English than the customer hehehe)
- Read or Ask about the menu, in detail, so you don't miss some amazing tasty preparations
- Well priced :) - I still have my FACTS clear, Italian or Chinese food does not deserve high-priced menu, but at the least this restaurant still is priced on PAR - with middle class affordability. (if not cheaper)
- Wine's :) of course they serve great variety of wines, but if you just want to have a great meal without spending much, try to avoid the Wine menu, simple reason, wines go well with Italian meal.. but its not mandatory to order Wine with every Italian meal you eat. :) + Mumbai weather does not recommend Wine :) (personal opinion)
- Yes, they did behave a litttttleee snobbish at 1st getting me a table inside (AC/ area), but ok try to be patient they seem to be learning, and should not be snobbish "just because they serve Italian" :) - or else home made maggie noodles / and macaroni zind-a-bad :)

Suggestions:
- Yummy - Duck and Chicken Lasagne (ask for more duck - if you love duck)
- Oven roasted/baked chicken (ask for viniger/olive on the side - not on top of the preperation)
- Woodfired Garlic Bread
- I think pizza is HUGEEEEEEE - looks good. (good for 4 or 5 easy)

.....thats it for now... :))
