Anyone who's used the pedestrian subway at Churchgate would know that there is not one decent take-away joint or even one that looks hygienic enough to vouch for in there. Well.. here's good news! If you've walked by what used to be the old "Railway Restaurant" in the past few months and spotted the 'under renovation' sign there, you'll be happy to know Churchgate now proudly has a Wimpy's outlet that not only has a good variety of meals on it's menu, but also has a seat-in area along with a take-away counter!
This outlet of Wimpy International Ltd. has been customized to meet Mumbai's taste buds and offers a variety of South Indian dishes and Chaat items on their menu along with it's traditional burgers & pizzas in the continental range.
Wimpy, originally set up in 1954, offers a variety of Vegetarian (Rs. 20-46), Chicken (Rs. 59-68), Fish (Rs. 55) & Mutton (Rs. 30-60) burgers in regular and large sizes. These have generous fillings of salads & sauces in a well seasoned burger bun. Burger Meals, offering office goers a decent lunch order, are also available for around 100 bucks. The mutton 'hamburger' is juicy and yummy!! Reminds me of the Mcburger that used to be available at McDonald's when they started out in 1998.
What excites me is that the Pizzas here are available in 3 sizes: 8", 11" and 14"!! Now, that's a family size pizza!!! Although I haven't tried the pizzas here yet, I did see what they looked like and I am certain to try one next week :) (Non-veg. toppings include mince lamb and chicken).
On the Indian menu, what seemed best was the Combo meals offering packed meals for Rs. 35-40.
So far, Wimpy looks promising and we can only pray that the burgers don't shrink with time, like McDonald's. Happy eating everyone!! (But remember, Burgers are still junk food)
