Outstanding!

Elco's panipuri is the definitive word in pani puri and chaat! I am grateful to the kind friend who introduced me to Elco's- if I lived closer to Elco's, I would be a permanent fixture here. The pani puri is absolutely outstanding! It beats every other pani puri I have ever sampled. The puris are light and super crisp with the right amount of crunch even after being filled to the brim with chutney. A reliable source tells me that the puris are fried in desi ghee. The panipuri-wala stands outside on the footpath and is ALWAYS surrounded by a swarm of pani puri lovers. The chutneys(paani) that fill the pani puri's are chilled to the perfect temperature and the holistic experience of crisp puri, warm aloo + chana mix +chilled paani is out of this world. Their pani puri's are modelled along the lines of kolkata's legendary "phuchka's" and they do great justice to them too!

Try their bhelpuri and their dahi puri which is to die for. The kulfi with falooda is also brilliant. There is something decadent about sitting outside on plastic stools on a Bandra footpath and eating something so sinfully delicious (or standing by the pani puri wala!) Having never tried sugarcane juice before, I gave into the temptation to try a glass at the stall in front of elco. Heaven...need I say more?!

Jai Sai Deva

Everything has already been said! But my personal favorite is not to sit inside, but to begin with a plate of pani puri (standing & slurping away) followed by ragda pattice or sev dahi puri; rava sada; ganne ka juice & carry away the awesome kesar pista kulfi.....(Makes one sound like a hog, but the wife also shares some of this)Jai Sai deva

Keep the pani poori coming!

I visited Elco when I was in Mumbai and the pani poori here is phenomenal and fresh! You literally stand at the counter while the pani poori walla (not sure if that's an official trade) makes each mouth watering package for you one at a time. Eat one, request another - fast, simple, and so delicious!

Also, I live in the U.S. and my weak American stomach was able to handle the food here. I think they use bottled water.

Street stall no more!

Anytime I'm eating at a roadside stall or even a restaurant, the one thing I'm particularly careful about is hygiene.. specially for stuff like paani puri that can easily get you sick! This is one thing I have never had to worry about at Elco..

Many of you may not know, this 2 storey restaurant was once only an illegal street stall sitting in front of that very building. The delicious paani puri n chaat got so popular that now the business operates from the entire building!

To maintain the old charm, there is one paani puri wala sitting right in front of the restaurant and mind you, its still most fun to eat paani puri from that guy outside and not in the luxury of the AC restaurant.

The outside counter follows a coupon system, and you can get a plate of pani puri for about Rs 35.. But don't stop at one plate... Splurge! :)

The best chaat in town

Whenever I am in the Bandra (W) area, I make it a point to stop by Elco Caterers and have some chaat. It is unarguably one of the best chaat's I've had.

It goes without saying that their pani puri is just fabuloso. Do try their dahi papdi chaat or their dali alu chaat also.

They have open seating downstairs, or if it one of those hot summer days you can chose to sit in their air-conditioned section. Either ways the chaat is always just delicious.
