Thai food....from which angle

Okay I went in with low expectations.....as long as the Tum Yum and Pad Thai were decent I would have been satisfied. The Tom Yum tasted like hot sour water and the Pad Thai was made out of Fettuccine......same situation with the green curry and other dishes....I guess I would have been okay if I had expectations of eating at Indo Chinese /Thai resteraunt but I was craving Thai food....so no more Thai Ban for me. I guess if you really dont know Thai Food it can work though!

not bad !

Rest : Thai Ban
Meal : Lunch
Date : 17/12/2006
Location :St John Road, Bandra

Experience- A pretty small place this, its nestled between Papa Pancho and Cafe Basilico, the decor is ok, they dont have more seating than 30 i reckon and the ambience is eveningish, cosy and casual.

Drink :Water, Fresh Lime Soda, Ice Tea

Food : Sticking to the staples, we got the Tom Yum Soup which was a bit ginger heavy but the tangy after taste was interesting.
The appetizers consisted of schezuan potato (dont even ask, my protests were disregarded) it was spicy, generic schezuan taste, we also had the baby corn mushroom satay which was on the money, rich full taste and enough portions to make 3 people happy.
The main course was just green curry with rice, pretty good here, but again, it all tastes the same, as if all thai cooks seem to be cooking from the same recipe book. bit dissapointing that but no complaints.

Rating : Food 8/10, Service 8/10

Damage : 800 ($17)

The best Pad Thai Noodles in Mumbai

Being a big fan of Pad Thai Noodles, I've tried it out in pretty much any place that serves it. But, the Pad Thai Noodles at Munchkins Thai Ban were the best I've had in Mumbai.

The items on the menu are reasonably priced. I would go there again, if I am around the Pali Naka area. The only thing that needs mentioning is that they substitute Paneer for Tofu in their dishes.

Decent Thai in a Happening 'Hood

At the St. John's and Pali Rd. Junction, tucked between Basilicos and Papa Panchos Da Dhaba you will find the quaint and pleasantly decorated Thai Ban. The menu is promising for Thai enthusiasts, as you start to recognize terminology that you've seen on other Thai menus (Pad Thai Noodles, Pad Khi Mao, Prig Je, etc.). Disappointingly, they did not have the delicious Thai Iced Tea, but their strawberry iced tea was a decent substitute. We started out with a few bowls of Tom Kha, a delicious vegetarian soup with a coconut milk base - this comes highly recommended. For main course, we ordered Green Curry Vegetables and Pad Thai Noodles. Although the noodles tried hard to retain that authentic thai flavor, it came up short in the end. To our satisfaction, that was certainly not the case with the Green Curry - it was true to the authentic Thai spices and flavors and was the favorite dish of the night.

If you're dying for Thai, this is the most authentic place I've found in the city. My hunt for better will not end, but till that time, enjoy Thai Ban.
