Good Seafood Joint at Goregaon

Satkar specialises in sea food, although a few veggie items are available.

Their thick, smooth coconutty curry is not to be missed - take your pick between pomfret, surmai or halwa fish for the curry, as per your liking.

They also serve yummy prawns and bombil (Bombay duck), dredged in rawa and fried crisp. Serving size for these is small. We only wish they served beer with these items!

Vegetarian fare though limited is very tasty, just like one would find at a typical Maharashtrian home. They have one vegetable which changes everyday, and a couple of veg dishes like moong, matki, usal.

Also not to be missed is the chapati made with rice flour (tandalacha peeth chi chapati), which is good just dunked in curry and eaten. They also serve the normal wheat flour chapatis.

Rice eaters will also not be disappointed, as the restaurant serves chicken/mutton/veg biryani as well as the staple steamed rice. We however did not order the biryani, and thus cannot comment on it in all fairness (though considering that everything else we tasted was quite good, one can safely bet that the biryanis would be too).

All in all, a good place to go for sea food at reasonable prices - the average fish thali costs between 70 and 90 rupees, depending on the fish you choose, the veggies items between 20 and 40 rupees and chapatis around 5 to 7 rupees .

The only negative points are the cramped space and horrible approach to the restaurant, but the food more than makes up for these inconveniences.

Great Malwani Food

Satkar Rice Plate House is located bang outside Goregaon Station on the East.

The entrance to the place is burried amidst small shops, but just ask anybody around and they'll guide you.

Satkar has been around since the late 40's and serves authentic Malwani cuisine.

On offer is:
Fish Thali - choice of fried fish and curried, 2 chapatis, rice, sol kadhi.
Mutton Thali - sukkha mutton, patal mutton, 2 chapatis, rice, sol kadhi.
Chicken thali, sukkha chicken, 2 chapatis, rice, sol kadhi.

One can also order a la carte - and the non veg menu is exhaustive - a variety of fried and curied fish, prawns, kurlya(crabs), teesrya, kalwe.

Rice bhakri is available daily, while Malwani wades are on offer only on Fridays.

For vegetarians, theres an amti, ussal and bhaji - which changes daily.

Satkar has recently added an A/c section. On any day other than Tuesdays, the place is packed at lunch time and one has to wait in line. Be prepared to share your table with strangers. There's no fancy lighting or decor. The service is fast and efficient.

Over all good cheap Malwani food.
