pali shack

Soul fry located in bylanes of busy pali market in bandra reminds you of a shack in goa ,off course minus the beach. In place of it u gt snarling horns of all kinds which at times turns u deaf n dumb too.

Monday nights r rocking wid karoke tht begins at 9.30. well if u wnt to sit in u betr reserve in advance. U can also be seated out as d smoke inside gets to u aft sumtime. well i mus say its ur choice between smoke or music......

The place gets packed which leaves space to stand at d bar.

Drinks are pretty expensive but d food is still resonable.Tried the masala bombil fry, stuffed bombil wasnt upto d mark hav eaten betr ones elsewhere.the crumb fried lamb chops were yummy.

Overall cosy place to guzzle n munch n relax!!!!

A rare find!

Great ambience and fantastic food! This is the place to choose when one wants to sample some authentic goan fare. A dear friend brought me here on one of my first weekends in Mumbai and I have returned often to this gem in Pali Naka. My eternal favourites are the prawn gassi and crab curry with steamed rice. For starters, I never waver from the fried Bombil...always makes for a satisfying meal. Only once was the Bombil so full of bones that it made for a huge disappointment but its been great on other occassions. I love the outdoor seating as well as the cosier seating indoors even though it is a tight squeeze.

A good place to catch up...

I must admit I was a little surprised to find there wasn't a review written on Soul Fry. I was there just last night with the Madman and me catching up with another buddy.

Soul Fry has been around for a while and is known for its mixed bag of dishes from Seafood to North Indian and even Goan style food. SF is a pretty small restaurant which has about 8-9 tables inside (air-conditioned) and outside as well. As you enter the restaurant's outer area, you will pretty much be assailed with the smell of the rotis/meat cooking away in the tandoor.
There is a tiny bar on the inside on the left. Recently the interiors have been given a fresh coat of paint and some tiling work has been done on one of the walls.
Onto the food - SF does not have a very extensive menu. Last night we ordered the chicken tikka (good), chicken lasooni kabab (subtly spiced & excellent), harnai bombil (bombil stuffed with prawns - good), sungta maria (prawns on toast - prawn was good but the toast was deep fried and you could taste the oil - not so happening) and some cheese naans (again good). Rounded off the meal with the tava prawn masala rice which was delicious as usual.
The beers were ice-cold which is always appreciated. Pint of KF will put you back by 100 bux. This meal for 3 with about 10 pints of beer cost us about 2K.

Soul Fry is a pretty regular haunt for us which is probably why we get some decent service. Although on the some nights it has not been upto the mark with us having to remind our servers about coming thru on our orders. However last night no such problems.
Monday nights are karaoke nights at SF which draw all the local and not-so-local crooners to the joint. while its a whole lotta fun, it might start getting to you as the night goes on because of the fact that there are 150+ people crammed into a room that probably can hold 50. The smoke doesn't help either and you might just end up leaving in tears :)
They also serve thali meals in the afternoons. Never had this but heard that they're pretty good.

I like this place coz its a bit pseudo-quaint. the food is usually good and the beers cold. For a quiet meal with friends where the ambience is low-key, this is the right place to go. And if you are a singing enthusiast like I am (karaoke freak is more like it ;) then a visit on a Monday night is a must.
