Beware of the quantity..yeh to too much ho gaya!!!

2 of my good friends and i decided to check this place out after one of them had been here some time back and had been singing laurels about the restaurant whenever we spoke of punjabi food.So it was 2nd October-The smoking ban had been enforced plus it was a dry day so no booze. So we make an entry into the place at 9.30-10pm.We enter the restaurant and i was amazed to see such a big place in terms of space.Seems like the owner had purchased/leased the entire floor of the building and so it was divided into 3 sections. We sat in the middle section.Since we were in no mood to have too many starters, My friend ordered a veg starter as he was observing navratri(So no Non Veg for him).It was called Tandoori Mushroom and we ordered Chicken Chettinad and a Mix Veg subzi cause we wanted to try how punjabi restaurants serve south indian subjiz plus the navratri season. Also we ordered garlic naan, onion kulcha and normal kulcha. So they got the starters first which was the best veg starter i had ever had and mind you that was when the service was quick cause you have like one waiter aligned to 1 or 2 tables which was good and plus no need to call them eveytime you need something.Coming back to the food, the mushrooms were well tandoored with capsicum, onion which added more flavour.

The main course took atleast 15-20 minutes which was irritating but we were okay with that cause we had masala papad for company. Finally the food arrives and i am in for a shocker. They had got the subzis in vessels which were bigger in size than what other restaurants serve in.We were 3 people and the food that came looked like it was meant for 4-5 people. But i must compliment them for the excellent quality and quantity. The chettinad was medium spicy and was good.I cant rate it much as i had tried it for the first time. The veg subzi was also good, though i dont prefer veg dishes in places where they serve non veg.The naan and the kulcha was nicely prepared(Very Soft and not too crispy) and so tasted even better with the subzis. However in the end it was too much for 3 of us.Dint order any desserts as we were full.

The bill came to about 650 bucks+taxes. My friend surprises us saying that he is paying the bill as its a surprise birthday treat.Actually his birthday was in september and he wasnt in mumbai to celebrate it.So it was like a double surprise

Overall a good place.Next time i am definitely trying some punjabi dishes for the main course.Cause its like "Punjab mein aake koi South Indian Khata hai kya??".Highly recommended for punjabi food lovers.

Surprised at their honesty

A lot has already been said about this place, and their food seems to have been consistently good since they've opened. While we are regular patrons of its group restaurant Urban Tadka, this is more spacious with less or no waiting compared to UT.

5 of us walked in for lunch today, and we were happy to see that their 40% off on weekday lunches - food only (MON-THU) held good today despite being a public holiday.

We ordered plenty of tandoori starters - aloo, mushroom, achari paneer which all came in promptly and they were seasoned just right - not OTT on oil or salt.
The main course took way too long to make an appearance - but it turned out good for us to take a small break after binging on the starters washed down by chhaas. After a long long wait the rajma, lahori aloo gobi and hara bhara kofta curry came in, but only with 2 of the 5 rotis ordered. On asking the waiter, he admitted that they were short on staff and the rest of the stuff would come in soon. I quite appreciate this 'no BSing' approach, instead of trying to run away and avoid the questioning looks of customers. Given that all the food was lip smacking we were more than willing to wait for the remaining stuff.

I'll highly recommend the butter garlic naan made from wheat flour along with the rajma rasseywala. There was no faulting any of the food ordered - actually much better than Urban Tadka which tends to go overboard with the salt many a time.

We decided to end the meal with a kheer, which again took too long to come in, so we asked for it to be cancelled. However a plate of rabdi-jalebi and kheer came in a bit after the bill, which the waiter declared to be on the house.

So a wonderful leisurely meal for 5 at 40% off came to 1300 with taxes and tip. I see some complaints about the service by the other reviewers, but honestly we were quite happy with it, especially their honesty which is a rare commodity nowadays.

Great Food

5minutes walking distance from my house this place has delicious food and great ambience. The best part is that they will make the stuff as the way you want. The service adds one more plus point to the place.
The home delivery service is also very good and they really provide you with your order 5min.before the promised time.
Had a great experience.

Food is Aces, Service Joker!

Masala Mantar is the cousin to Urban Tadka - promoted by the same people, and largely trying to fit in a bigger set of people and serve them good north indian food.

However, where it all goes wrong, is the Service. Eating out is a flash in the pan event, but it is an event, and much like the food, the service matters.

My first visit to the joint was the week it opened, and they did not have too many patrons and the place was real nice to us with a lot of attention given. However, I've seen it grow over the months and years and get Nasty!

The last time I got there, these dudes took the longest time however to serve me. This was 6-8 months ago. The food sucked, the order was mired with confusion, and they took 25 minutes to get me 1 rumali roti.

However, like the previous reviewers write, the food is mostly very good here! So hopefully, they can get their service right too again :)

Good Food. Bad Service

Awesome food. That is the only thing for which i will go back to this place.
Service though is not up to the mark.
It started when I called up the place to make a table booking. We (my frnds n me ) were going here on a saturday nite and hence i thought that a reservation is in order. The number that is listed goes to some other desk and hence i was given the right number for 'reservations'. On calling the reservations number I was informed that they dont do reservation on the phone (this is not just restricted to Sat/ Sun but is the case for all days). So I asked the guy that how come the previous guy did not tell me this. They did not bother to give an answer.
Well as fate had it we did land up at this place after we did our usual bowling nearby
Ambience is pretty decent. Also thankfully the AC was working properly. The place has a high ceiling from where lights are suspended and cooling up such a place is quite a task, especially these days with everyone going in economy mode for ACs.

Excellent food. The Panner and Aloo starter that we ordered was a bit spicy for some of us but none the less tasted good.
A bit on the expensive side. The Bar Menu Especially is not right. The price in that menu is something else and they charge you something else. I am not just referring to the Taxes the actual charges differ in the Bill. Thats something you need to watch out for.

Would I go again? Most definately.
