Decent Local Fan Following

Often on my way back from college a few years ago, I remember a 10 year old Chinese boy often lugging along the alley, a stripped plastic bag full of fresh veggies with spring onions jutting out. Young Kenny single-handedly manages his father’s Chinese restaurant now. This Chinese family is well respected in my neighbourhood for successfully running this little business for over 12 years. They are Chinese but speak fluent Hindi and English. They make their money mainly through home delivery.
Kenny is always very helpful with a ton of recommendations but here are some of my own anyway - Mushroom chill, Chinese bhel, crispy veg, veg steamed wantons, veg clear soup with mushrooms, veg man chow soup, egg/veg haka noodles, triple schezuan rice and if you are the daring type try the American chopsuey. The food is sightly oily as compared to regular chinese food but that’s the fun of it. For those of you who didn't know, old school thumbs up goes really well with chinese food. Also, Kenny can arrange for 'other stuff' from the local store on special request if he likes you. The restaurant is very clean by normal Indian-Chinese joint standards but please don't start comparing it to mainland’s and aromas of the world. You can enjoy an entire meal for 4 here at the price you might pay for one dish at one of those chi-chi places.

Directions: it is in the same alley as Oh Calcutta Express just a bit further down.

pure indo-chinese

Nestled in a quiet lane near the Lokhandwala area, this little hole-in-the-wall has been run by a Chinese family for at least two decades now. The basics of the menu are easy to understand - it is Indo-Chinese to the core. Egg Haka Noodles, Mushroom Chili, and Steamed Veg Wontons are just some of my favourites. Add to the mix a steel glassy of ice-cold beer, served under the table of course, makes for a perfect dinner meal with friends.

Beware: because of their under the table alcohol and BYOB policy, the place gets some semi-shady dudes that like to dine late night (around 11PM) or in their parked cars. I think they're fairly harmless, but not the most pleasant people to be around.

No non-sense jusht chineej

Delicious place to order in chinese if you live in or around Shastri Nagar (near Lokhandwala, Andheri). Its a tiny restaurant that operates out of a little shop but the chinese is the best indo-chinese I have eaten. I think the food takes after the India born chinese owner! :oD

Nice hole-in-wall place

While I was in US, I truly missed the Indian-chinese food. You know the variety that is passed off as Chinese but cooked with Indian style and flavor.

Now that I am back in India, I've gotten back the chance to savor Indo-Chinese food. Here, near our office, we discovered this hole in wall place called Mini China. It is a family run business that is managed by a Chinese father-son duo (both of whom were born in India, btw). One of these rainy days, just go there for the soups. It is very worth it. The food is good, the service great and the prices modest.

They do home deliveries for free. For my lunch today, I had ordered Hongkong Paneer and some Veggie fried rice. It was truly yum yum.
