In anticipation of a perfect Saturday afternoon, I wandered into 'The Brew Bar' on Saturday with a point to 'enjoy' the Natwest final: India vs. England! (especially with India opting to bat fist, especially with Sachin reminiscing with his earlier days' enthusiasm and zest!)....Alas, the team had alternate plans. But then the word complacency is definitive of the Indian team's psyche....
The fact that Saurav, Sachin, Yuvraj, Dhoni did not deliver can be accepted citing many such failures in the past as a precedent, but a sports bar set in the heart of Mumbai not delivering was indeed shameful!.....
The place is set in a dark blue ambience with a serpentine orange tube-shaped light crossing one end to the other. A huge projector-screen adorned one wall. Small screens were located at strategic locations so as to avoid discomfort for the patrons who were not seated to face the projector screen!.
The place may be a beer-lover's delight, ....they have an all-that-you-can-drink beer within 90 minutes on the menu as an option. I choose to remain sober this afternoon, in lieu of the lack of enthusiasm in the match as well as the place. Mocktails were priced at Rs.195/- I had the only one thing (peach +lemon+oj) which looked appealing on the very stingy menu options. Funnily enough, cocktails were priced at Rs. 210/- (probably, their portions would be in terms with the pricing!). I further chose to sip on salted fresh lime soda the rest of the afternoon!....
One special mention with respect to the food is the 'chicken barbecue' served in toothpick skewers on a live charcoal mini-barbecue. I have never eaten such tender chicken outside of 5-star restaurant!....full marks to those!.....Remaining all the dishes on the menu may go take a hike someplace!!....the fries were fried and refried, the chicken lollipop was smelly and not appealing, the prawns were served in a salsa sauce which for reasons unknown was sweet, and when i mean sweet , you could make out that the sweetness is artificially induced into the sauce...yuck!! With all this food and 6 glasses of fresh-lime, we billed Rs 1300/- in total.
To give this place a leash, I think my 2-start rating may be an overstatement purely because of the lack of enthusiasm in the match, and also probably I am too judgemental considering that I am not even aware of the kind of music that they play!

This tucked away comfy spot in Phoenix Mills is a good way to get away from the hustle bustle of the whole young mall culture. Go after work or simply to go to chill out if you do not feel like partying. Service is always very friendly and never pushy. If I remember correctly, they have a good jukebox here too.

This is the less well known of the 2 bars adjoining COs - the bowling company. While Sports Bar has its regulars, I prefer the smaller neighbour - Brew Bar. Not least because the Happy Hours daily are a great value for money! The music varies - from lounge, to pop, to contemporary hits. It can get crowded towards the end of the Happy Hours (9 PM), so get there early, and chill out!
