Yesterday being the birthday of my brother. My sis in law (my co-burrp partner) & myself decided to lunch & the foodie that my sis in law is she wudn't dare to go to any other place without having read bout it on BURRP before. So just as we were wondering where to stop over for a quick lunch. she started racking her white matter in the brain n from the crevices in there she drew out a name BANYAN TREE. At 1st when my bro n myself heard we just wondered whether we should or not, coz we wud have to search d place n it was already 3pm. So we weren't sure would they still be serving in. We got their number from just dail n called them up for directions as we approached the place. The guy who picked the phone was very prompt n accurate wit his directions, coz we found the place in flat 3 mins without much looking around. Its simple u see, Just enter the lane n look for the biggest banyan tree on the road !!!!.. Trust me thats where it getz it's name from.
Anyway just as u enter the place there is a small little rectangular non a/c space outside where u find people sitting & having the bakery items this place offers. Then as u enter the restaurant, its horizontally divided on a step up. we went higher up n took the corner table. The ambience has all dark brown, beige & cream shades. It has a very calm n serene feel to it. On every table they have small table piece very innovatively done up. I say that coz i have'nt seen a plant in a test tube before!!. & then that test tube placed on a lovely dark wood stand. As u enter u find this black board to ur left stating the special's of d day. Lovely pink, white n beige paper lantern around d place, a plasma screen screening the match also exists.
Anyway now came d time when we had to place d order. N my sis in law refused to order anything without refreshing her memory after going thru what others had burrped here. So as my bro n me started glancing thru d menu card, she started trying her luck at getting connected to burrp thru my cel. I ordered for a oreo classic & chargrilled chicken with creamy paprika sauce (slurrp I thought to myself). My bro called for a chicken scotch broth soup (ya u read right its SCOTCH itself !!!!) n a new zeleander drink. The waiter continued to look at my sis in law, n she kept searchin for burrp still, she refused to place d order without reading (now thats called being a brand ambasador for BURRP!!! )
Well, after all the reading by our fellow burrpers she enlightened us on changing that soup to BT MINESTRONE. So we asked the waiter to do so.. n well he did that without any fussing. Then madam placed her order of herbed grill chicked in pepper mushroom sauce.
Getting back to the place, It turned out to be a total non crowded types, very unlikely on a sunday afternoon. Since our fellow burrpers said that we shouldn't expect our order anytime before 2 hrs, we had framed r minds not to leave this place before 5pm, but I beg to differ with every other review on this page. Coz our order was on the table within flat 1/2 hr. Probably we would regard it to the scanty population in this place ystrdy. After all there were only 3 other couples besides us.
Now talking bout the main part. the yummy delicious, breathtaking, scintillating, mouth watering, lip smacking, amazing, classic meal that i would'nt forget at least for a while. There came the main course. Very well garnished with just bout enough sauce, served with a choice of mashed potato or rice ( we opted for the 1st) The chicken in both the paprika & the herb was very well marinated. The difference in both was even though the sauces were so diverse, so was d marination. With every morsel of herbed chicken d succulent pieces of chicken had the lime n herb flavour just cutting through the dip of the pepper mushroom sauce.
What I liked the most is the marination, coz every other place would have just steamed the chicken seperately n placed on a diff sauce base, but this was very differently done up. After talking bout so much of chicken i musnt leave out my lovely oreo classic which my bro jus jumped n snapped on leaving his new zelaender. Well, u cant compare both, their entirely different but both lovely n classic. New zeleander has a mixed fruity flavour of green apples & kiwi and oreo of course our famous OREO cookies on a cream base.. Not forgetting the soup that we had called for, agian very sharp blend of spices with exotoc italian flavours summed it all up for it. We ate, ate.. ate.. n ate some more.. I guess one review here says - U can never be wrong to order anything, thats true. eveyrthin im sure is sumptuous here.
& Then came the time for the dessert. Following our foodies bible (burrp) we ordered for the GOOEY CHOC PASTRY... and there... divine... sinful...exotic... amazing.. bliss...its cutlery licking types... i cant think of any more words to describe what it tastes like. Its this soft textured choc just melts. Its a sin to go here n not eat this.
Trust me .. r stomach's were full.. but not the desire.. wish we could fit in some more.. The flavours still ting-a-ling even i write this. Pls make it here burrpers.. or else ur missing on some authentic food.
The price we paid for this awesome meal : 996(incl taxes)

I went to Banyan Tree for the first time this noon with my friend for lunch. I loved the ambience & the decor- very laid back, casual atmosphere.
We had:
Spaghetti in creamy sundried tomato sauce
Herbed grilled chicken in cheesy mushroom sauce
Garlic bread
Apple crumble pastry
Damage done: Rs 624 (for 2 people)
The food was delicious. Everything tasted excellent & the portions were sufficient too. Prices..well..they are affordable for the food you get.
What I was disappointed with was the service. Even though there were 4 tables occupied in the entire restaurant, we were stll made to wait for a long time for the food. After paying the bill, we had to wait for 10 mins to get the balance back...& that too after reminding them once! Service is very very slow indeed. I would have given this place 4 stars...but the poor service forces me to rate it as an average place..

just been here once quite a cosy place if one wants to have a good conversation one can have their privacy .this place is away from the crowd and noise has a good set up the place has been lit up beautifully with lanterns which catches one's attention did not eat much just had cold coffee which was excellent did not go through the menu much to know what exactly they serve... although i would agree with one of the previous review the service needs improvement
if open to suggestions could play more soulful music such as john denver, cliff richard.etc
and to end it a smile on all the employee's face could make a customer feel more welcome

I should have done this earlier... considering I've been here at least 50 times since it has opened up....
The place is perfectly located... in a bylane in Worli... close enough to seaface to be cenral and far enuf from the madding crowds... and true to its name it does hv a magnificant Banyan Tree at the gate...
the place isnt huge, but very warm... as are the staff.. service is however a little slow...
Banyan Tree boasts of an excellent menu... i've never gone wrong with anything I've picked... the choice is however limited... which is a worry since being the only cafe in Worli, it has the burden of becoming a regular hang out to many.... The gooey choco cake is sinful... the grilled chicken perfect... the lavazza mocha wonderful....
they also stock a brilliant multi grain loaf which at half price after 8 pm is a steal...
and if you are into soup... their BT minestrone soup, which comes seved inside a hard bread is def worth a try...
a place to definitely visit if you are in Worli..
