Yummy Blueberry Cheesecake

Went by for dessert late in the night. Love this place for late night coffee and dessert. Situated in a quaint lane behind the Taj, off Colaba Casueway, this is a wonderful place to eat lunch, dinner or just stop by for coffee. For now heres the desert review. I will write another elaborate one on the food menu soon.

Order:
3 Blueberry Cheesecake
1 Tiramisu
1 Gooey Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice cream
1 Hazelnut Chocolate Torte.

Damage: Rs. 700 for 5 people

The Blueberry Cheesecake was delicious (as usual). They have on of the best cheesecakes in town. Also they are eggless!

The Tiramisu was a great disappointment. I found it a bit stale .

The Gooey Chocolate and Torte were good. (I am not a chocolate cake lover at least when i have blueberry cheesecake as an option) So this part was reviewed by my sister who liked the chocolate cake and torte.

And once again please do not miss the blueberry cheesecake.

Bon Appetit!

Cafe Basilico

Cafe Basilico became really famous when it first opened a few years ago. I believe Chef Moshe was part of the team then and there was often a wait to get a table. Cafe Basilico is a really nicely designed cafe which really gives it a nice classy touch and really gels with the whole Colaba colonial atmosphere. The food here is great too and I reccomend having the grilled chicken stuffed with mozerella and a really nice sauce on the side. They keep changing their menu and so you might not find the same thing on the menu, but ask the waiter for some reccomendations and theyll surely help you out. Besides the food, Basilico also has some great deserts including thier famous Oreo Cheesecake. They used to have a Baileys cheese cake on their menu which was my favourite though its not been replaced with a mousse which isnt really the same as the cake. The drinks here arent bad either and Id reccomend the Peachy Cheek which is sprite and some peach syrup that tastes pretty good. Now comming to the price. Its moderatly expensive with each dish costing around 350 , deserts at 150 a piece and drinks at 100. Definatly not cheap, but for the ambience and quality, Id say its worth it.

Good Chicken Dishes

I recently had dinner at Cafe Basilico and I thought I should recommend two dishes in particular which you must try when there.

* The Chicken Lemon Grass Soup - spicy and very tasty
* Moroccan Chicken - This is different because it's served with a nice gravy and rice. A good meal by itself.

And of course, when you are at Basilico you can't forget to leave some empty stomach for the lovely desserts. On weekend nights book them as soon as you walk in.

all is well

So last sunday, we argued andlessly, the three of us, as to where to go to eat. After two hours of naming every damn joint in South Mumbai, we decided to give Cafe Churchill a try. On the way there, we took the scenic route, right by the Taj and Radio Club and passed Basilico, it was as usual, packed. i used to pass this cafe many a times on my trips to Radio Club.

We reached Churchill and to our surprise found out that they did not accept cards. Now, not having any hard cash on us, we started looking for an ATM, in that search, we just gave up and decided to go to Basilico.

Now this is the first time i have been here, as soon as we entered, since the place was packed with White people, i grimaced. As per my experience, any place that has a flood of white people, is always overpriced, overhyped and totally not worth a try. but since we didnt have any other place to go, we decided to give it a try.

The wait time was three hours, ( the damn thing was packed) but as i am how you say, "physically distressed", they were kind enough to shove off a reserved table for the three of us and we got immediate seating. (unfair yes, tough nookies)
The service was prompt, we started off with a Tangerine Teriyaki Chicken Salad, and Rawas Tikka Kababs, which was quite nice, the dressing was well prepared, the chicken shredding however were a little weird, but all in all a good start, rawas was flaky and well marinated.

Then we moved on to Oven Roasted stuffed chicken roulade, and Basilico Penne Paprika. The chicken was a little dry, we could have done with a little more of the sauce with the dish, but the pasta was heavenly. they even obliged my sisters wish to add mushrooms and corn to the creme sauce.

I give very high marks on the service and quality of food and presentation. This place is definitely somewhere i will be visiting again.
