A cute little place

I’ve been to Mia Cucina twice now, once for coffee and once for dinner. Both times the first thing that struck me was the cosy feel that the place had, as if I had chanced upon a neighbourhood gem. They have outdoor and indoor seating and while the outdoor area is great for smokers, I really liked the booths that they had indoors.

The menu is simple but interesting. The wine list however is limited to the Chantilli and Tiger Hill brands while the more popular (?) Sula wine was not available, let alone any imported wines. But honestly, this place is more about the food than the wine (although many will argue the synergies of the two!). We started with the Bocconcini salad with rocket leaves and cherry tomatoes. The fresh, crisp arugula leaves were delish, but the bocconcini itself was a little disappointing, more slabs than balls and not as fresh tasting as it could be. A spinach and goat cheese risotto followed which was light and tasty, and my friend said the home made tagliatelle was also very good. Dessert was a story in itself….and one with a very happy ending! We shared the aptly named decadence chocolate cake. What can I say…wow!! Rich, luxurious, melt in the mouth chocolate, truly a feast for the senses and a must must try. I had tried the cheesecake the previous time which was also very good so I think I can confidently say this place seems to know its dessert.

The staff was courteous and the service was fine. Though I guess a busy Sat night might be a better judge of that than a slower Wed night.

All in all this is a quite a sweet little place that I’d be happy to try again!

Mamma mia, mia cuchina

Lets start with the downsides.

- no smoking allowed inside
- only mediocre wine is served and the staff doesn't know too much about it.
- desserts were nearly all not there the time i went.
- the staff made mistakes with the order - twice- and brought out replacements twice.
- music wasn't the best.

upside- really nice food. i had the pizella (YUMMYYY!!) and the pepper stuffed with rice, mozarella and basil (even more yummy!!!!) and now i'm sure i'm gonna go back there several times.

the handmade pasta with gorgonzola was also something else. Their ceaser's salad also left a little to be desired though. Insalata with the blue cheese was really good. Really really good food.

The desserts were okay. Blueberry cheesecake wasn't fancy. The regular cheesecake was quite nice but here they broke their rule and both cheesecakes tasted too almondy and nutmeggy.

Otherwise, really good food. Try going there on a weekday. The dinner crowd is substantially lesser and the waiters actually are truly helpful.

Its nice to see food which hasn't been over spiced or overpowered just one basic flavour. These guys stripped the food down to its basic taste and complemented it well with other gentle flavours.

Cute place

Great food, utterly reasonable prices - the meals happily taste more American-Italian than Indian-Italian, e.g., less sweet.

Really nice understated ambience, nice lighting. Not a fluorescent bulb to be seen.

The downside? I'm not sure how I've survived three meals here and am STILL waiting for their alcohol permit to clear so I can have a glass of wine with my meal.

Overall - nice addition to the Pali Naka neighborhood.

Simply Awesome !

The food is as exotic as the name of the restaurant. Mia Cucina is serves food that is exotic with a subtle yet heady infusion of herbs, the unbeatable combination of sauces with vegetables or meats, the exotic wines...food that is cooked in a healthy way.. baked ... grilled , roasted...freshly prepared with the warmth of home and the intrigue of a gourmet meal!
try the pizella (fried pizza with tomatoes & mozzarella ), pollo alla griglia con spinaci(chargrilled chicken with spinach & potatoes).. they have some risotto as well!

Now here comes the bonus point of going to Mia Cucina .. they serve the most delectable tiramisu.. its a must must try !!... if your'e not a tiramisu person you can pick from an assortment of cheesecakes and other chocolate cakes...

Step into their kitchen ;)

Bon Appetit!

Looks promising

Mia Cucina - a new Italian eatery that's just opened in Bandra (Pali Naka). This is where Da Vinci was earlier, right next to Papa Pancho.

The place is pretty quiet and sober and does have an Italian feel to it. It's owned by a Chef, so that's good news.
They pride themselves (or claim to) in serving authetic Italian food. Though the friend accompanying me to the place has travelled extensively to France, Italy etc. and felt that there was something missing in the food. On which the chef said it could be the Indian spinach they have to use, since she had ordered a Canelloni, which primarily had spinach.

For me, the menu was a bit disappointing since they did not have any vegetarian dish without spinach. I ordered potato dumplings that came in a tomato sauce but had no accompaniments - pasta/rice/kaus-kaus/ or even bread. But then again, they claimed that it was a complete dish but I had to order a bread slice since it was too tangy.

Also, I did not like the chocolate cake much - it had a very rough feel to it.

The menu is completely hand-written and explains each course generously. Quite a visual treat. It includes antipasti (appetizers), zuppa (soup), pastas, pizzas, main course, desserts and non-alcoholic drinks . The latte my friend had was apprantly smashing!

The staff was quite friendly and the chef personally came to ask about the food.

All in all a nice place, worth visiting. Value for money.
