utterly disappointed

was there last december to celebrate my brothers wedding. All dishes have egg and then don't tell you that upfront. Non-egg menu is restricted to just 1 or 2 items. Good mocktails. Lousy mohito & ice tea. Very limited menu. No new soups or anything even remotely exotic

Kamling, china garden, china valley (powai) & chopsticks beat this any day of the week.

Wayyy overrated.

Never going back.

could be better being the taj!

golden dragon according to me is totally over-rated.
2 freinds and i went for lunch a couple of days ago..

restaurant was empty at 1:30 pm.
ordered starters - some dimsum and some other stuff which took around 20 minutes to arrive.. some of them you could not even call dim sum..
the service was slow and un attentive... i was seated at a non-smoking table and i lit up a ciggy unknowingly and they just let me smoke away..no questions asked untill i asked for an ashtray which is when they stopped me...

main course was slightly better.. the pomfret in the sweet black sauce is good but after a few bites it gets too sweet and just too much to handle.. the beef was decent.. and the noodles just like you get anywhere else...

i would think twice about going back there...
paid a hefty sum of money and got out...

whats with the LOPSIDED crockery anyways!!

still good

Was there last night for some quick chow. almost went to Henry Tham but pulled out.

Now, no reservations but they did give us a table no problem. We were hungry so we skipped the soups though there were a few i would have liked.

We went for the stuffed mushroom in garlic sauce (oh hell yeah, crazy good) the onion pancake (not bad but Oriental Blossom does them better)the main course was noodles with cashews and chilly (great) but the peanut sauce and veggies were terrible. made me unhappy and i lamented not picking something schezwan consdiering its their specialty.

Anyway, service was fantastic, top notch, they took off the price for the veggies since we didnt enjoy them.

The damage was extensive near 1900 ($40) which is crazy. Steeper than it was the last time i was there.

fairly authentic, amazing ambiance

Was here recently for a work-related dinner and was blown away by the authentic Chinese ambiance of the restaurant. Everything from the ornate doorway to the seating, it screams Chinese.

I started with an order of scallop dim sum and found the scallops to be a bit on the chewy side (perhaps a little overcooked), although the entire package was quite tasty. Ordered a Schezuan mushroom dish with some vegetable fried rice for dinner and they were the perfect compliment to each other.

All in all, the service is fantastic, the ambiance excellent, the food is great. Being the Taj, it is a little heftier on the wallet than a local hole-in-the-wall, but if you are looking for premium Chinese, this is the way to go.

Fantastic overall

Rest : Golden Dragon
Time : Dinner
Date : October 4th 2005
Location : Taj Mahal Hotel

Experience: We had a table for 9 and we got there on time, were immediately seated by the hostess. The menus came in almost immediately and the wait staff was generally pretty friendly.

Order : Schezuan being their specialty we got some schezuan style paneer, also a mushroom appetizer, Some babycorn in a garlic sauce. Noodles with vegetables sans broccoli prepared Schezuan style, white rice, vegetables in a brownish garlic sauce.

Drinks : Aquafina

Food: The mushrooms were incredible. Melt in your mouth, explode into taste and make you wanting more.
The rest of the meal was a mini anti climax. The noodles were good, spicy but well done.
The vegetables were allright, not the most tasteful thing but they were a good compliment to the rest of the meal.
The wait staff was very good in making the recommendations some of which worked, some didnt.
Overall a splendid meal, almost the best you can get BUT it didnt explode like the mushrooms so it was a relatively dissapointing but still a great meal.

Overall : I would give the food a 8.9/10 Service 9/10.

Damage : 2400 INR ($60)
