Exuberance of warmth is the foremost step that any self-defined ‘coffee-shop’ should attempt at providing, for it is this very quality in conjunction with the coziness, the soft-lighting, the informality, the laid back attitude, and the minimalist seating décor, which define the cluster of thoughts that our mind conjures whenever we think of a ‘coffee-shop’. Moreover, every image of a ‘coffee-shop’ is complete only with a steaming coffee cup atop the table, and a person’s mind entangled in a book whilst sipping the hot cuppa.
Essentially, ticking all these dreamy thoughts, chef Moshe Shek has notably dished out this joint one with his affirmatory signature. Nestled non-descriptively in the first floor within the fab-india building between kalaghoda and fountain ‘hutatma’ chowk, all inhibitions relating to the worthiness of the coffee shop are lost as soon as u climb up and enter the café.
An engaging yet minimalist menu offers you varied choices from:
- salad and salad fillings (around Rs. 85/- – 120/- a portion);
- soup of the day (Rs. 85/-);
- crostinis (open-faced) (at Rs. 95/- to 110/-) which include fillings of corn, mushroom, olives, mozzarella, chicken etc.
- filled bagels (at Rs. 95/- to Rs. 110/-) with similar fillings;
- toasties (at Rs. 85/-) with minimum insertions;
- sandwiches (Rs. 95/- to 110/-)
- dips and spreads with lavash and pita bread;
- smoothies/refreshers (around Rs. 80/-);
- and a plethora of desserts.
They have an assortment of healthy breads, bagel, lavash flatbreads, cookies to choose from, either to wrap your fillings or even to take home.
I used to have filled bagels in Glasgow, in specialised eateries called 'Bagel Mania' and 'Bagel Factory' which used to churn out a helluva number of bagels with all thinkable permutations and combinations of fillings to choose from, and I used to wonder, why this never carried into India. The Bagel shop at bandra has mixed reviews, hence, I definitely applaud Moshe for incorporating this niche, never mind the minimum options.
I have had the toasted bagels with cold egg and potato filling and also the one with mushroom-olive oil-olives-sundried tomato-cream cheese and were top-notch. The cappuccino is strong, well-flavoured, and hot – preempts any other coffee elsewhere.
A wholesome café is what we are presented with, on this count. A great place to unwind, either on one of your shopping sprees or just a casual break from work in the surrounding area.

This is a rather charming cafe (especially the outdoor area) that will do nicely for a leisurely catch-up with old friends over a tasty, somewhat unimaginative, menu. There's a sense that they could go a lot further than hummous but don't, in order to cater to the common denominator. The service is sub-par but that's been established by pretty much every review of the place, which makes you wonder whether the management give a damn. Don't expect to be blown away, but if you're hungry and in the neighbourhood, stop by for some decent grub.

They have great soups and fresh trustworthy salads. Yesterday two of us from office had a late lunch there. Its not the place for huge meals just something light. Great for hummus, coffee, salads and soups. They have a different soup of the day everyday. Yesterday we had the green peas and corn soup and chicken salad with balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing. Delicious and satisfying.
2 Soups + 2 Chicken Salads = Rs. 423/-
Not bad for a healthy meal eh?
Oh by the way, don't expect great service, the staff take the 'laid back cafe culture' very seriously and always have their back to the guests. Besides, don't be surprised to hear them laughing and chatting loudly with each other during slow hours. You will hear frequent loud 'excuse mes' from every table since thats the only way you can get a waiter to your table.
(The rating is for the food; Service is 2/5)

I think what this place truly has going for it is ambience, after all Fab India is housed in a lovely building so the choice of location is excellent.
The menu is something you start knowing by heart if you're a regular visitor to the Crossword in kemps corner, so the novelty value does wear off. But atleast you're guaranteed a good cup of cappucino and some pretty good desserts and sandwiches.I often buy the multi-grain bread from here and on occasion have bought the tapenade (mushroom I think) both of which are very good.
The service is admittedly sucky and there was one time where atleast 5 different things we'd asked for were not available (which was quite annoying), but somehow even that hasn't put me off from going back here ever so often (something about the waiter on the day made me feel almost bad for the guy - don't ask why!)
If you're in the area I would definitely recommend going here for a chilled out,lazy cup of coffee and maybe some conversation!

Agreed that the service here is pathetic. But Moshe's comes closest to what I feel is a good cafe. The ambiance, the food, the coffee are all excellent. The only things missing in a cafe like that is a good book shelf and a wifi connection. You cant be bothered about the service that much if you have these.
Agreed that whenever you need something you have to draw a waiters attention.They always seem too busy and short staffed - not inattentive. So its really a management issue.
Lavash + Hummus, Penne Bake, Cappuccino, recommended.
Yesterday we ordered Limeade, Coffee and Hummus. The damage was a little under 200. Not tooo bad, is it??
